In The Farewell, the main story is about a big secret. A Chinese family doesn't tell their grandmother that she has cancer.
To many Western people, this feels wrong. They believe the truth is very important.
But in Chinese culture, this is done out of love, and this is a good lie. The family wants to protect her, not hurt her.
In the East, family is more important than personal truth. This is very different from Western culture. In the West, people care a lot about freedom, choice, and honesty. The right to know is important. That’s why the main character feels very confused. She grew up in America, and she thinks the grandma should know the truth. But when she goes back to China, she slowly starts to understand her family’s way, even if it’s still hard for her. Many Asian Americans feel like the main character. We live between two worlds. At school or outside, we learn to speak up and be independent. But at home, our family teaches us to be quiet, respect others, and take care of each other. These ideas sometimes don’t match. The movie does not say one culture is better than the other.
It shows that love can look different.

“The meaning of your life is defined the moment you decided to find a meaning for your life.”

I watched the movie Soul, and it really made me think deeply. It is not just a story about music or dreams—it is about life, purpose, and what makes us feel alive and just look like a person. The main character, Joe, is a music teacher who dreams of becoming a famous jazz musician. One day, something unexpected happens, and he enters a world of souls. He meets a soul named 22 there. At first, Joe believes that everyone must find their “spark”—something they are meant to do in life. But later, he learns that life is not only about doing "one" special thing. This movie made me think more about the meaning of life. I used to believe that we all need to find one big goal or passion. But after watching Soul, I realized that living is already meaningful. Life is not just about doing something important for the world. It is also about the small, beautiful things: eating your favorite food, watching the sky, talking with people you love. These moments are simple, but they make life special and beautiful.

Inside Out 2 just like the first movie, it helped me understand more about emotions. And this time, Riley grows up, and she starts to feel new emotions. There are more voices in her head, and she needs to feel more about this world. In the movie, we see the extra emotions like Anxiety, Embarrassment, and Envy join the group. They don’t always make Riley feel good, but they are still important. This movie made me think about my own emotions. Sometimes I try to hide and run away with my sadness or worry, because I don’t like how it feels. But this movie showed me that it's okay to feel different things. We don’t always need to feel happy. It’s normal to feel scared, nervous, or angry sometimes. After watching this movie, I hope I can accept all sides of myself and learn to hold every feeling with care, because they are all part of who I am.
