Wellbeing Sketching Journal

Another way we discussed looking after our well being was through keeping a sketching journal or diary. This can be in the form of a small sketch book you keep in your car or something to reflect on when you get home. Inside you can sketch places your visited that day or memories you wish to capture. It’s also great to add to this newspaper cuttings, photographs, words expressing how you were feeling in that moment etc. It’s a lovely record to reflect back on and revisit memories in the future while also allowing you to express it in an artistic form.

I’ll attach some photos from a sketch book Tracy keeps.

Stress Bucket Sketching Exercise

Today we talked about wellbeing and art, how we can use sketching to look after our wellbeing and be mindful. One exercise that I think is really effective to help understand and visualise this is through the stress bucket.

Into the top we have everthing that is making us feel anxious, filling the bucket up bit by bit until It all becomes a little overwhleming. The tap is the positive things we do to help release some of the “water” and release some of the stress. For example sleeping well, eating well, catching up with friends or sketching!

Please have a go at skething the bucket, sketching the items that are going into the top filling the bucket up and then the things you do to release that pressure. I appreciate it’s a very personal thing so please don’t feel obliged to upload the drawings to the group but on a personal level I found it really helped me regulate a balance in my own head day to day. In my sketch I don’t mind sharing that I put my house going into the top (which needs much work) and a person coughing as a friend currently is struggling with covid. Then at the bottom I drew a person fishing, my cat and a landscape as I love being outside. So please have a go at home, it’ll also be a fun challenge too sketching various objects!

Morning everyone, we have a zoom this week for the first session It is at 10am but will be recorded for anyone who can't make it and posted later in the day. It'll be a chance to meet me and Tracy, catch up on any questions on how the course will work if your unsure or need any advice generally. Tracy is going to cover a couple of bits too which will help with first sessions.

Just wanted to mention too that in the first video Tracy mentions about having done / access to basics course. Some of you have come from that course and others have come straight into this one for first time, both is fine and you don't have to have completed the basics course or have access to it.
