Trepidation was the first thing which I thought of when I completed Page 85, as the whole friend group is overcome with anxiety and shock, and they are all sharing a common fear, and all start running in trepidation. Everyone is said to be yelling, trembling, and being frozen in shock, which explains the feeling of trepidation and fear that they share with each other. The page emphasises Ellie's shock and discomfort that crashes over her, using a hyperbole which expresses that she felt she couldn't breathe but kept running because she was so scared.

This gives us a deeper understanding of what Wen feels every day. This is her interpretation of what her father feels. She describes it as 'invisible but pernitrates everything', meaning that she feels his rage taking up everything, even if she cannot see it, and the presence of it makes her want to hide. This shows us how she feels around her father and how relieved she is when he is not where she is, giving us a reason why she loves school, and a motive as to why she wants to leave her home and attend a special school. This is why she acts tough even though she is afraid of her father, as she believes if she stands up to her father, then her father's rage will not terrify her anymore.
-Keren
Pg 18

This is a hyperbole which emphasises Ellie's fear, along with the intensity and suspense which this scene holds. This expression shows that Ellie is so scared that she starts running, even though that she feels like she can't breathe, which means that Ellie must feel really terrified and thinks that her life is on the line; this hyperbole, in a broad way, summarises the feeling of trepidation which Ellie, along with the others, have. This hyperbole is also saying that they are all running for their life as they think something is going to kill them, along with setting the trepidation which everyone feels onto the reader.
