In order to truly implement this program, I would like a one-stop show for accessing materials quickly, a way to print all materials for each unit or have a workbook for each unit to keep student ideas and work within each unit kept together. I would also like to see more examples at my grade-level, in a district similar to ours.

I would love to see a way to implement the program to a classroom comprised of both ELL's and non ELLS. There is a definite need in my dual language school.

This is a difficult question to answer as I have not yet used the program. I guess the biggest modification I would need to make is a way for my non-writers to participate in the written portions. I was thinking we could divide the class into two groups and have an adult be a scribe. I am also thinking that I could possibly use Padlet and let them video the questions in the modules/lessons.

I found that we need to supplement with a lot of vocabulary. A list of prerequisites for the unit would be amazing. Maybe as the program roles out and more classes participate, there will be less gaps between what students know coming in and what is expected prior to learning.

I find this question difficult since I have not yet used this program. However, I do feel that it would be helpful to have access to materials for myself and students. As for modifications, I would probably pair a higher level student with a middle and lower level student to help with any reading and/or writing.

This is hard to answer, as I would have pre-teach vocabulary and I would have to provide sentence starters for many of my students. Also modifications such as translation for my Spanish and Arabic learners.

This is challenging to answer since I have not implemented any lessons yet. However, I noticed that some sources are text heavy without many visuals. This can be extremely challenging for several students who are performing significantly below grade level. I would have to read the text aloud or have a audio recording of the text.

This is very hard for me to answer since I haven't taught this curriculum or any of the lessons at all. The only idea that has come to mind so far is how to integrate the Past, Present and Future into the upcoming MyView unit called Then and Now. That curriculum is very weak on content and I would love to try to align the two units. I think the action portion of the InquiED would fit in perfectly to the week 6 portion of MyView. I really do wish I could see the teacher's manual and student workbooks. That would help with implementation.

I have not implemented any lessons as of yet, however I am excited about starting Unit 1. I would like to see if there is a way to incorporate the InquirEd with the MyView units as the time constraints for SS is what is is hindering a lot of the progress we could be seeing in our students. There are many resources/videos/slides that I am very excited to begin to use with my students when given the opportunity.

I also would have to directly teach some of the vocabulary for starters, and modify some of the investigation to make it more attainable for my students

I have yet to fully immerse myself and my students into this program, but we have done PBL and this is a milder form of PBL that I actually like a lot better in that it doesn't seem so stressful to get to a final product and we do not have to start everything from scratch, it's started for us with the opportunity to change things around and decide how this will be best used for the students in front of us each year. It's the same curriculum, but can be tailored based on the needs of our students. I like the questioning aspect and that we don't have to be looked at as the experts holding all the answers and that students can come to conclusions apart from what we would have as teachers. I think the students will learn more the less I talk, too...

I would like it to be a little easier to navigate through all of the material. There is so much there.

I have not been able to implement Inquiry Journeys in my classroom. I would have taken this PD sooner like at the beginning of the school year when we were teaching Social Studies. The last 20 weeks of school has been Science. I have really enjoyed this PD and being able to go through learning all about Inquiry Journeys. Being able to look at what is offered at 4th grade. I really want to begin and may start out small to get my feet wet. I realized my classroom routines and rituals need to be firmly in place.

I can't answer this question without having any experience with it, but I would like to have access to print materials in an easy to access way. I would like to be able to teach SS concepts aligned and integrated with what I am teaching in MyView, and I would like this to be rolled out far better than what we have had in the past. It is a lot to learn a new curriculum, and our prep time in elementary is very limited. I would like to see more job embedded learning and collaboration instead of always feeling like we have to learn by doing on our own with everything that is new.

I started to use inquireED this year and so far I find it useful. It is well organized and easy to plan. However, with the schedule given by the district I've had to prioritize the core lessons to get through the unit. I would like to try some of the extension lessons next year. I also supplemented with resources about the Haudenosaunee people from NY rather than reading about native groups from the other areas since we were trying to tell the story of NY. I don't think we can truly predict everything we will need to implement considering the inquiry products are TBD and may require outside resources. I'm hoping to have more time next year to implement more of the curriculum and find some connection field studies.

Both this year and last I tried to implement InquireEd in my classroom - I found all of the materials to be very easy to use/follow and students enjoyed the format of the lessons and the open ended approach to learning SS. It would be very helpful if content areas (Science and SS) were more aligned to the Literacy block - there is NEVER enough time for content area instruction and many times I felt like I had to take out lessons to try to get through the most important learning.

I would like to have more time to delve into this curriculum and see how it aligns with what we are using. My understanding is that we will be teaching Science (Amplify) and social studies simultaneously next year, and I would like more support in how to balance that with pacing.

Students get excited and attentive when the progress is of their making. They have the choices within parameters and the outcome addresses the standards. This program flow in to ELA helping with the " time" management piece. It seems we can cover more content as well. I think the materials are generous, the help desk - key and an opportunity to show what they know in a way that helps them build skill for later pplication.

I would like to start using the inquiry ED program more this year! Last year I remember hearing about it and hearing good things from colleagues about lessons! I think students would enjoy these lessons at the end of day (thinking of my schedule) and the collaboration time! It has been hard in the past finding good material for Social Studies and I like the lessons - they are more engaging for the students! Finding the time to get through it all in one day will be challenging for sure !

I am lucky to be looping up to fourth grade with my students this year. Last year we used inquiry in math and science so the students are familiar with questioning, collaborating, performing investigations, and reflecting. The only difficulties I see is time in the elementary setting.

I have not facilitated any of the lessons yet so it's difficult to determine what modifications I would make. I like teaching a new curriculum with fidelity the first time, reflecting on what did and didn't work, and then making modifications. The biggest challenge for 6th grade is the time constraints teaching SS and Science only 2-3 times per week---alternating schedule with the same block of 35 minutes. My plan is to jump into the first inquiry and see how the students do with it and whether the pacing can be adjusted. I also think it would be helpful for students to have a designated notebook or workbook already set up for each Inquiry. Students need to be able to look back at their notes throughout an Inquiry frequently. This program is heavy on discussion but there is a need for concrete notes.

This is all new to me. Luckily, my students have had a lot of opportunities to collaborate and reflect during learning experiences that we engaged in last year. As I think about the content, I wonder if it will be challenging for them. I will need to make it relevant to them. I worry about the time that is set in our schedule for social studies. I would like to be able to do every lesson but I do not know if that is realistic. I will need to emphasize vocabulary and modify some things to support the diverse needs of my students. I really like the aspect of students leading and collaborating in their learning and less teacher centered instruction. Less of me and more of them. I believe that really has an impact on their learning experiences. I like this, but it is a bit overwhelming all at once.

I agree with other people's need for a pacing guide. Last year was very unique with splitting the time for SS and Science. Both of these curriculums would fit that same time frame that we had last year. I think it would be difficult to navigate both at the same time. I also agree with Marie. You have to do something once before you can say what you really need.

I would create or modify if possible the slides they use for the lesson. I only glanced at a few and I think they need more information. I also like to look at the program in depth and see what else it has to offer. More professional learning needs to be offered within grade levels.

I like the idea of collaborating with other teachers on my team and implementing this program for the Social Studies curriculum. I think that this curriculum will help us keep on a good pace and allows the students to be more actively involved in the learning process. I will be teaching 7th grade this year and I think that I will be able to use the resources from the lower grades. I will have a high number of ELL students and I think this style of teaching will allow for more participation. If necessary I will supplement with grade-level materials, however I can use the ideas from the different topics and a lot of the resources.

I agree with what several others have stated, a pacing chart is crucial to getting organized and teaching the lessons effectively. I also would like more grade specific training.

Having hard copies of the teacher manual as well as student workbooks would help immensely with implementation.

I think the planning will be the biggest challenge for many of us due to time contrants, and with the drive for student collaboration you never want to cut those times short. I think my biggest thing this year being new in this curriculum will be finding ways to embedd student discussion of our inquires in other areas of the school day, like morning meeting and writing times.

This is the first year that we will be implementing InquirED lessons for social studies. The lessons are well planned thought out with lots of videos, charts, graphs to utilize. I am in an ICOT room and will be collaborating with my co-teacher in inquiry learning. A challenge I am hoping to avoid is teaching S.S. and Science every other day. I think chunking 5 weeks for Science and 5 weeks for Social Studies for each semester would be more productive for student learning. I also hope we can utilize some of our mandatory ELA time to add to the limited time we have to teach Social Studies.

Miller-Some modifications I am seeing I may already need to apply is having an adult scribe for some of the students due to the challenges they may face with their writing skills and I am sure I will need to develop other slides to assist the students with comprehending the topics of discussion. Many of the lessons are longer than the allotted SS block in our schedule. I suggest being creative with where else you can fit SS lessons into your day. Many of the InquirED lessons are loaded with close reading and other ELA skills and strategies.
It is really helpful to plan and debrief with other teachers at your school (or other schools). This also may allow you to share resources, like the papers for the first activity - Wellsnippers - in the first unit.

I will be teaching 7th grade and will be able to implement many of the ideas and strategies into my teaching. I will need to make modifications to meet my Special Education students' individual needs.

I have differentiated by pre-reading articles in guided reading groups to ensure students who need extra support gain the context and information for the unit in full.

I will have to meet my class first, before I decide what modifications may need to be made. I know I have 11 students with IEPs coming to me, and so I may have to simplify a few of the lessons to help scaffold the information. In addition, we may have to tweak some of the lessons for sake of time.

I teach 9th grade Global History and I think the biggest challenge in implementing this would be time. Also knowing your learners to see where they are at takes time to implement anything successfully. I think this curriculum has a lot of great ideas but I think it would especially be useful to start by highlighting the need to knows and the nice to knows and figuring out with a pacing chart how to fit it all in along with the skills that are needed and are highly transferrable across other contents and subjects as well!

I work in a departmentalized 3rd/4th grade Montessori classroom and I teach ELA however, I am seeing how many EAL skills can connect to the InquiryED in SS even though I don't teach SS this year I think by collaborating with my peers we can provide extra time to have students really dive into the learning and taking the ownership of their learning.

I currently teach individual students who are assigned to the Home/Hospital program. Activities involving small group collaboration is not a ready option. Knowing that this is key to understanding new information, I always partner with my students in a way that provides “ample opportunities to talk to learn.”

With IBT practices in mind, I will also explore additional ways for my students to collaborate. For example, I can reach out to teachers within my unit who are working with students at the same grade level. There may be opportunities here for students to connect and collaborate virtually.

I see the action plan an opportunity for students to demonstrate key skills for civic engagement and as a way to enhance learning about government. In the past, I have included communication with elected officials as an activity for 7-8 social studies classes. I’ve also created lessons where students use a majority vote rule and a system of representative democracy within the classroom to analyze the strengths and weaknesses of our electoral system. These activities would be more meaningful if incorporated as action plans in their learning process.

I think planning to implement will be the biggest challenge this year.

I have not used InquireEd before, as I dig deeper into the modules I may need to look at how much prior knowledge may need to be build in order to my students to have those quality interactions and discussions. Some modifications may be needed as we begin because taking the driver's seat is not something many of them may be familiar with.

I think it is all about bringing the inquiry question to an applicable situation for first graders. For example, through looking at the First Module, I want my students to come up with ways to bring our entire first grade hallway together as a community. Too often do I see classes staying separate and thus kids do not interact. I want to look at each classroom as a different family and then use the Inquiry Question to figure out ways to bring everyone together.

Time is something that is needed to print, collect and organize the materials necessary to present this curriculum with fidelity. It would be great if the district allowed us time on a conference or half day to work with our grade level teams on gathering these materials. Also, it takes longer than the prescribed times for my students to complete the lesson activities, so I often teach one lesson over a couple of days to ensure that every voice is heard.

I have not yet implenting InquirEd. It has been challenging teaching Science, EL and SS. I agree with many others. It would be better to have one semseter science, one Social studies, escpecially at the kindergarten level. We need more time to dig deeper. The inquiry model is a new way of teaching for me, which requires more time to understand how to approach the lessons. These are not lessons you can teach on the fly. I think the students can get a lot out of these concepts. However, I also think there should be explicit teaching of important concepts, as many SWD need explicit teaching paired with investigational learning.

I think that the American Revolution Inquiry can be used during Reading and Writing as well. I'm excited to implement Reading informational text on important people or events, and having the Inquiry Product being an informational book that students produce. Then this book can be shared in the school library, sent home to families, or the information learned can be shared with younger grades!

I am excited to have a resource for S.S. I feel like it has been on the back burner for so long. I think it is great that it isn't the traditional textbook and aligns with the way students presently learn best. I am concerned with the website. I have had difficulty getting into it over this course. I have had to send multiple emails to the company to get into the website and I have spent more time trying to get signed into the site then exploring it. Kind of frustrating and makes me nervous to use if I am going to be struggling to get logged in in front of my class and waste instructional time.

I also teach the beginning ELL students and if I hadn't had the ESOL teacher in the classroom with me during our SS and Science time it would have been even more difficult to present the material as well as them working in independent groups because of not speaking, reading, writing, or understanding English. I love the idea of posing a real life problem that affects us all as a population, and seeing how the students respond to it. I love the idea of letting the students show me what they already know, and where they want to go within a topic. Even at second grade, students can generate some amazing and thoughtful questions that can spark curiosity and eagerness to learn and solve problems. For this to be effective, I'd have to pose a problem that is applicable to my students and possibly their families, in order to include everyone and have total participation.

I have worked as a coach for years and as a classroom teacher and my goal is to provide teachers the opportunities to leave the room and observe SS lessons in other rooms, see how students are responding when you aren't focused on if they are getting the content- but can focus on the learning process. I do love the way the activities are set up and all the different ways we can modify the activities; however, I also feel that time is a hinderance in the planning and implementation of the activities. I’m happy that the district has given us more resources to teach SS. At this point, anything is better than nothing. It also doesn’t feel like a huge load to take on since it contains everything at our fingertips. Students will enjoy the program and the opportunity to collaborate. I love that I can look at a gallery to see what other teachers have come up with for final projects and implementation. Planning with my team teacher will also make things run smoothly. I love the idea that students can choose their own projects to show the learning that they have done throughout the unit. I think the way the modules are structured makes it easy to teach as far as planning goes, but I think that this will also be challenging for our students to adapt to. I agree with many of the ideas already shared. I am excited to have this curriculum as a resource to support SS instruction in my classroom. However I am just beginning to learn about InquriED so it is hard for me to know how I might modify the curriculum. Based on the exploration I have done for this course, I can see how the first inquiry, Navigating School, would fit well with beginning of the school year expectations. It would be helpful to have a printed copy of the lessons (or teachers manual) as well as having any vocabulary cards/visuals centrally prepared and distributed for all teachers. I think that Heather’s idea to create a Google Drive to share anchor charts/ideas would be useful as well.

I will be using this curriculum to teach my interns how to teach and plan it. I won't be using it myself. I will however get to experience many grade levels. I hope to be to complete a project.

I may need to modify some of the handouts since I have a very large amount of lower readers. I think I just need more time to fell confident with the material. I look forward to completing the projects with my students and hopefully seeing them apply more effort.

I will need time; time to plan out how the inquiry will progress with our schedule (for example what lesson or parts of a lesson I'll do on what days), time to prepare the materials needed ahead of time (really like that tab on the lesson description page), time to find and discuss with a coworker how to make sure I am embedding some of the Inquiry based teaching practices to start and how I can implement even more (using the collaborative reflection planning tool), and time to familiarize myself with the important take aways, guiding points, and reminders to not take over but rather facilitate learning.

What I truly need is the master schedule for 6th grade to reflect more of a middle school schedule to prepare our students for 7th grade starting in 6th. I need to be able to teach social studies every day as well as other subjects. This will truly prepare our students well and the implementation will be effective.

I see several ways to help teachers implement InquirED effectively. I would share ideas for launching inquiry questions and using artifacts to spark student curiosity. Modifications might include simplifying lessons or materials to match students’ developmental levels, or integrating inquiry with existing content standards to make planning more manageable. To support teachers, I would need ready-to-use templates, example Inquiry Challenge Statements, and access to the video library to model lessons and strategies. Additionally, creating a collaborative space for teachers to share successes and challenges would help build confidence and ensure consistent implementation across classrooms.

I love how hands on and inquiry based this program is. I am worried if we will have time to complete all of the lessons given that the day runs out of time easily. Sadly SS and Science are always the first to go
