There are many sources of stress in the world. The pandemic has only increased the effects stress has had on us- making a bad situation worse for many. Stress causes major negative responses in the body which can lead to chronic disease if not managed properly. Wellness techniques that are easy to use to manage stress are a great way to teach others how to effectively manage stress in a healthy way. Techniques like the Heart Math Quick Coherence Technique and the Emotional Freedom Technique are just two of the free and easy ways I teach my patients, family, and friends to cope with the effects of stress.

Why it's important nursing leads the charge in social change.

The 9th Element of the Social Contract between Nursing and Society explains that nursing will find strategies and lead the public in ways to help mitigate health problems that effect society (Fowler, 2015). It is therefore the responsibility of a nursing professional to not only identify new health problems that arise, but it is also their job to learn the best ways to combat those problems and teach the public how to due the same, lest nursing will break the social contract with the public.
Fowler, M.
How I, a Casual Contributor Change Agent, Impact Stress Management

According to a Walden University study, there are six types of social change agents: Ultra Committed, Faith Inspired, Socially Conscious Consumer, Purposeful Participant, Casual Contributor, and Social Change Spectator (Walden, 2013). I relate most to the Casual Contributor which Walden describes as someone who is inspired to create social change because of a need identified in their community but is not necessarily committed to a lifelong pursuit of enacting the change.
Stress Management is an important thing to learn because it effects every single person. After earning my certification in holistic nursing, and learning that there were many ways outside of medications to help relieve stress, I knew this was something I needed to share with my community due to the increase in mental health problems, but severe lack of resources. I took a new job working in an outpatient setting where I could make a true impact and teach patients easy techniques to help them manage their stress and anxiety. My dream is to be able to morph into a Ultra Committed Change Agent- one who commits themselves to a cause- and create a curriculum to teach children stress management early in life to build a foundation of good mental health.

Walden University.
