Macduff arrives and tells them that Macbeth has gone to Scone and will be crowned King,. Macbeth arrives and invites Banquo to dinner. Macbeth also thinks about the other part of the prophesy and worries to himself (in soliloquy) that his kingship is a ‘fruitless crown’ and ‘barren sceptre’. They discuss politics and wonder if Banquo’s murder could be blamed upon his son, Fleance. They admit that they also suspect Macbeth for both the murder of Banquo and King Duncan. They discuss how Macduff is currently in England joining King Duncan’s son, Malcolm, as he asks the King of England for help to prepare for a war to overthrow Macbeth and take back power in Scotland.
