This is because everyone who owns a TV has to pay for a TV licence. BBC doesn't  take money from companies or there shareholders therefore it doesn't have to do what shareholders want, they can make whatever channels they want to make. Another way the BBC can make money is by selling it's programmes to other broadcasting companies.
Out of the money that is made through the TV license 53% of the funds go to the BBC. The big 40 broadcast songs that are currently the most popular and the most downloaded. The most common music for the top 40 is hip-hop. 
On Capital Will Manning presents the big top 40, the show was broadcast on 140 commercial radio stations in the UK with an audience each week of 2.5 million listeners.  
The presenting style is of the top 40 is informal as the presenter is trying to connect with the target audience who are teenagers and young adults. They will use slang and phrases that the current generation are saying this is to make the connection better with the audience. The talking on the show is fasted pace as the show must be entertaining so the viewers don't get bored and turn of the station also being fast paced draws the audience in more than if it was slow paced. The show would then be vibrant as it makes the show more fun to listen to and more involving. The main age group for the vodafone top 40 would be teenagers and young adults as the top 40 will have hip hop music which is more aimed and listened to by this age group. National radio is a commercial radio some examples of national are Absolute Radio, Classic FM and talkSPORT. A National Radio is a radio station that only broadcast in that nation. For us this analogue radio commercial would be the United Kingdom. 

Radio Stations are operated from different locations around the country this is usually to share different stations like the BBC regional news services. The remit for each Local Radio Station is the same this is to offer a primarily speech based service that is comprising news and information, complemented by music. 

Advertising space is sold in order of the organision.
Usually radio stations are owned by bigger organisations.

Funding for commercial radio stations

Commercial radio stations do not charge there listeners for the products they make and also distribute. Instead for them to make profit they use ads that they sell. They also make money off the special events that they hold on the radio station. Also with it being a community radio station the community will also do fund raisers for the radio station and the community could also donate to the radio station. 

At community radio there are different roles that are still similar to real station's there is a head of music, as well as a producer. There would also be a DJ who plays the songs. In some there would be someone who controls the social media aspect of the community radio.

Vicky Locklin is the presenter on ASDA FM, her soft Harrogate accent and humour helps listeners relate to her. Quotes from Vicky show that she is just as normal as everyone else as this quote states "I am the typical Asda customer." This gives the image to the listeners that you may just see her doing her weekly shop ing the supermarket just like you. The advantages of having a retail radio station is that it is a unique service which is designed to appeal to a specific customer. Also the messages and the brands that are delivered on the station are directly targeted to the customers because you know the demographic that are listening. You can deliver messages that you want. You can also reinforce the brand with the retail experience. 
There are benefits to CD companies for the retail radio this is if ASDA radio plays a song that a lot of listeners enjoy they could go to ASDA and buy the CD to this song in the store. ASDA has now become a large-scale CD retailer selling around 15m albums a year. Therefore the songs they play on the radio they will have the CD to this song in the supermarket. Other retailers also have radio station some of these are Debenhams, Ikea, Lloyds pharmacy chain, morrisons and topshop.

On the show Nick plays music and also speaks a lot on the show. In the show he's speaks 60% of the time and plays music for the other 40%. On the show Nick doesn't mention BBC Radio 1 that much while on the radio he doesn't keep saying the radio name this is because people who are listening to the radio know which radio station they are listening to. Also every BBC radio show is broadcast live and on the microphones they use they have the BBC Radio 1 logo so you know what radio show you are watching. On this show Nick has Rita Ora as his celebrity guest. Rita Ora was a good guest to have because the night before shoe had just won an award this means that she will be more recognisable and trending more. Also the age of Rita Ora works well as she is young like the target audience of the radio show therefore people listening to the radio will know who she is. In the radio show they use they use uptempo music with loud beats, this is used because it is a breakfast show so they music is there to wake you up. This works as when no one is talking on the show the music will automatically go louder therefore there is no awkward silence. Nicks personality is energetic and loud an example of this is at the start of the show when he is introducing Rita Ora he shouts her name showing of his loud voice and personality this is also done to wake people up. Nick also uses jokes and banter showing he has a jokey side to him when Rita Ora says that she is late, Nick starts to joke about a storm and that the storm is named Dorris. This is done because his loud and informal personality relates more to the young audience who are listening. He is also very giddy at times and stutters because he cannot get the words out at times an example of this is when he describing his experience of needing a wee in a taxi. BBC Radio 1 also have a ABC playlist. In a ABC playlist the a songs are a set of songs that are currently trending and popular. B is songs there was recently popular put are starting to become not as popular. On this radio show there is no background music, this is done because the target audience just want to listen to what the conversation is about without any music interrupting it. On the absolute radio they have a playlist in this playlist they have famous artists from the 80s. The genre of these songs indie rock music. But there is also a big mix of music in the playlist this is to appeal to a bigger audience. Absolute radio have a policy called the 'no repeat guarantee' were they won't play the same song on the same working day. This is good so each song is different.
