Aggression can be passed down through generations in our genes. The warrior gene has been strongly associated with aggression. People with a particular form of this gene are more likely to show aggression than those with a different form. This may also explain why men are more likely to be aggressive than women because they are more likely to carry the warrior gene.
Aggressive behaviour can also be associated with brain structures. Abnormalities in the limbic system, which processes emotions, or the prefrontal cortex, which controls impulsive behaviour can lead to aggression. These abnormalities can be genetic or be due to damage from trauma.
Sex differences are directly affected by biological structures.
