-One such way they must do research is looking at real life and seeing how objects in our real world move, and look in order to give fluidity or smooth animations that do not take the player out of the experience(Immersion)

-Looking at real life and studying how bones, muscle, and fat looks and moves is crucial and helps the animator/modeler give the model more life, or twist it in some way.

-Looking at real life through scientific studies also provides a great source of creating new things and designs, or putting together concepts, particularly time periods, bodies, diseases, genetic disorders, and already exiting organisms.

-Studying and learning about the software you'll be using is also of major importance so that the animator/modeler can know what they're actually doing and how to use the tools being provided to them.

-Looking into real life events, scenarios and history, as well as mythology, fairy tales, and folk lore proves to give stories another layer to work with, and even more depth, so this information can further be relayed to the animators and modelers so when they put together say the models for old fashion accurate knight armor, terrain, stone bricks, and weapons that they're staying accurate to the time period.

-Studying the ways in which people use or fire weapons may impact and improve the quality of the game, by giving the animations on rifles, say more strength or a stronger burst upon firing(recoil), or having a empty cartridge shot out in order to keep immersion strong or making something feel more realistic or fantasy.

-Research in psychological works and literature can give 3D Artists/Animators more inspiration and an idea as to what to do for say a enemy's design and its movements so that it may serve as a means of symbolism for say perhaps Bipolar disorder, Sadism, Depression, Mania, Psychosis, Fear, Anxiety, and even grief. These can be incorporated through the way the enemy move,s breathes, talks, and looks. Having an enemy covered in sharp blades, hooks, claws, needles, and teeth with a grin on its demented face that could be either a skull or twisted flesh heap is one example of a symbolic display of symbolism.

-3D Animators and Modelers can also use other works as a form of inspiration as a means to get an idea on what to do, or what not to do, such as with Resident Evil and Silent Hill, even now, still influencing modern day horror games. Not to mention also clock tower as being one of the first survival horror games produced.


-Research is crucial in order to help form and shape the reality and world of a video game, tasks that 3D animators and modelers(even in films, cartoons, etc) must also take care with, so that their worlds have a sense of understanding and reason to make it feel either more alive, or dead, depending upon the direction the project is to take. Research also may help in making the audience feel a particular way via studying how people, such as player's react to dread, darkness, flickering lights, strange noises, loud noises, gore, violence, and other themes and or imagery, and to capture their response.
