One of the things I would bring with me on my trip would have to be a hand compass. This would help me be able to tell which direction I am heading. The second thing I would have to bring with me would be a chronometer. I would bring this because this would help me be able to make more precise and accurate maps. The third thing I would bring with me would be rifles. I would bring rifle because if we got into trouble I would be able to defend myself from the predators. I would also be able to hunt with a rifle. the fourths thing I would bring would be 192 pounds of stew. I would bring this because this is enough food to help me feed me and my the others. The last thing I would bring would be shoes, I would bring shoes because this would make it easier to get past any terrain without blistering my feet. Blistering my feet would make it hard to walk and hard to explore the west.

The first person I would take on my journey would be York. I would take York because he was one of the only slaves that were good at hunting. Slaves usually didn’t handle guns but York was talented and was very talented at hunting. With him hunting this would help me be able to have a food source. He would also be good for this journey because he was willing to risk his life for others. York risked his life for Clark, Sacagawea, and her son when they were caught in a flash flood. This makes his brave and very important for the journey. This is the first person I would take on my journey.

The second person I would take on my trip would be Sacagawea. I would take her because she knows her way around the West and knows which paths to take. She also knew many of the other tribes farther west and would be useful for a translator. She is also useful because she showed the men how to find other types of food and how to make leather clothing. She was also a huge help because she acquired the horses the men needed to get across the Rocky Mountains. Without Sacagawea the men would have died due to starvation.

One plant that was discovered on the expedition was the, “Biscuitroot.” This was found by Lewis Clark. He found this plant because he saw native tribes trading it to each other. They found out that it was light to carry and could be used to make soup and stew. Lewis had collected it near the Walla Walla River but if he kept the Biscuitroot or sold it is unknown. This is one of the plants that was found during the expedition. I think they liked this pant. I say this because they were able to use it to use it to make food for them.

One of the animals the Corps had encountered were grizzly bears. The Corps were fascinated at how strong these animals were. They stated that it took more than one rifle shot to take one out. They also stated that they were the kings of the western plains. The animals were as big as 600 pounds. I think the Corps was scared of these grizzly bears. I say this because they are big predators that are hard to kill.

One Native American tribe that Lewis and Clark encountered on their journey were, the Walla Walla Indians. The Walla Walla Indians lived in present-day Southern Washington. The tribe was very keen to others stopping by. They wanted people to stop by because they wanted to trade with those people. This tribe has asked Lewis and Clark to stay with his people but Lewis and Clark had rejected their offer the first time. Later when they were returning back home the tribe had asked them to stay again and they did this time. The Corps had stayed for 2 days but the leader had asked them to stay for one more night so they did. Before they left the tribe had given them, “horses, food, canoes and valuable information for reaching their next destination.” This is one of the tribes that Lewis and Clark had encountered on their expedition.
