Hello everyone! This is Joanna, aka 李苇(wei3)静(jing4)。(I was planning on filming a short video clip, but I am just too exhausted from 7 hours of class today _(:з」∠)_ Using my last bit of energy here writing to you all)

I am a fourth year IR student, and now working as a TA for this course. 我来自广东珠海，今年是来到温哥华的第九年了。我会说粤语(yue4yu3, Cantonese)，当然普通话也是很标准(biao1zhun3, standard)的:)

My summer life was pretty boring, wasn't able to go anywhere because of the pandemic. I was basically taking classes (One of them being our CLP course CHIN 485, and the other one was EOSC 116) and looking for work. While not studying or stressing about work searches, I was learning how to cook. Have to say it is an important skill to develop, especially when you live alone (like I am now).

To get myself prepare for the coming term, I wrote down all my deadlines on one sheet, placed it somewhere obvious so I won't miss anything. Also trying to have my desk organized, the picture below is me with my messy but organized desk :) It is always nice to have things in order to bring myself into a study/work mode.

2. Apart from studying and exams, I did quite a bit of hiking over the summer. 我喜欢爬山！I did a couple backpacking trips, one to Garibaldi lake and one to Elfin lakes, both located in Garibaldi Provincial Park. The photo attached is from Elfin lakes!

1) Hey everyone! My name is Selina Guo (郭雅琪) and I’m a second-year Arts student, hoping to major in Political Science and minor in International Relations. I was born in Hunan, Changsha, but moved to BC when I was two years old. I’ve moved around BC my whole life, from Vancouver to Burnaby to Coquitlam, which is where I live right now :~)

2) I was supposed to go to Japan this summer but due to obvious reasons the trip was cancelled :( So instead, I took up some old hobbies, bought an iPad to draw on, read some old books sitting on my bookshelf, played some Animal Crossing on my switch, and worked at my part-time job.

3) I prepared for the semester by adding important dates onto my Google Calendar, using Notion to organize my notes and to-dos, and prepared a bullet journal to plan out my schedule on a weekly basis.

2.) This summer I read an assortment of books, notably The Grapes of Wrath and When Breath Becomes Air. I also completed Biology 12 over the summer, and watched a wuxia drama called 月上重火.

My name is Walter and my Chinese name is 楊皓鈞. I was born here in Vancouver BC. Growing up I spent most of my childhood in Coquitlam before moving to Richmond. I am currently studying Kinesiology.

My plans for the summer included relaxing at home with family, catching up on simulcasts, and gaming with friends. I was worried covid would mess up my summer but nothing changed because I don't leave the house. June came along and picked up golf with my friends, did a few hikes, and learned how to lift some weights at the gym. I also picked up a part time job and took money from 爸爸 Trudeau. Overall it was a good summer, albeit a little lackluster in the travel department but it's easy on the bank account.

Hi everyone!
1) My name is Kevin Cheong and my Chinese name is 关顺礼. I was born and raised here in Vancouver. I am a first-year student going into Economics.
2) Despite there being a pandemic, I tried to make the best out of it. Within the same bubble, I biked with my friends all over the Lower Mainland, from North Vancouver to New Westminister to Steveston. We would often stop at safe locations and buy food and drinks and eat them together at locations away from people.
3) To get ready for university, I cleaned out my room, got notebooks for each course, and started planning a day schedule each day to help me sstop procrastinating

Hi guys, my name is Jessie (黄泳詩) and I am currently a second year student - going into third year next term. I am planning on applying for a major in Poli Sci next term as well. I was born and raised in Vancouver, however, I have always dreamed of moving to another place, such as Hong Kong. I had originally wanted to go to Japan and Taiwan with my friends this summer, but couldn't because of COVID :( Hopefully, I can travel soon, and if anyone knows or has any recommendations for sight-seeing and restaurants (Japan, Korea, and Taiwan), I would be incredibly happy to write those down! :) Therefore, this summer, I decided to take a few online courses, and have been working at the bank as well.
Honestly, I haven't done much to prepare, and I am quite nervous, but I can't wait to improve my Mandarin. However, I think having an organizer/planner and having all the dates written down will help keep me on track.

My summer was pretty average for me. It mostly consisted of sleeping in, playing video games, and relaxing. Sometimes, I went outside to ride my bicycle. My plans weren't really interrupted by the quarantine, but not being able to properly celebrate my graduation was a little sad.

Hey guys, sorry for that post above. I was starting to write my introduction when I realized that I should probably sign up first, and so, upon clicking the sign up button, the site automatically uploaded the post...😭 Still ended up making an embarrassment of myself on the first day *cries*

I go by Elaine, and my Chinese name is 朱翠琳. Summer life was...a hellish experience. Tip: never take 4 courses during the summer. Biggest regret since not taking Chinese school seriously as a kid. I did take a trip to Deer Lake to canoe with my friends, although I was gripped by the fear of capsizing the entire time, haha.

Does it count as preparing if I watched Chinese variety shows and listened to Chinese music? If so, then yes I’ve spent much time intensely preparing for this semester. What are your favorite Chinese artists/shows/songs? I’ve got a long list, but 周深 (zhou shen)，华晨宇 (Hua chenyu)，阿云嘎 (Ayunga), Jane Zhang, 蔡徐坤 (cai xukun)，and 王一博 (Wang yibo) definitely top the list. I would recommend to try 画心 (Hua xin) by Jane Zhang or 大鱼 (Da yu) by zhou shen if you prefer softer and traditional Chinese music.

I'm Shuya Liao.
My Chinese name is 廖淑雅 but just 淑雅 is fine! I'm an English major born, raised, and currently living in Richmond BC.

I didn't do much this summer... but I danced A LOT. I also helped my family work on a lot of home renovations. I met up with friends a few times but I spent majority of summer social distancing safely and quarantining at home :) (oh and I got some tattoos done hehe)

Honestly, I haven't done much to prepare for the online semester and I'm still getting used to it.

Not gonna lie, I totally missed this assignment last week. Better late than never I guess 🤷‍♂️

My name is Lavis Chen and my Chinese name is 陈宇阳. I was born in Vancouver BC and currently reside in Delta. I am a first year in engineering.

Summer was rather unexciting. Because of the current situation, I spent most of my times indoors in front of a screen and listening to music. I did go hiking a couple of times with some of my friend and I also took a small trip to Victoria which were definitely to highlights of my Summer.

To prepare for this online semester, I've been working desperately to fix my terrible summer sleep schedule. Waking up in the morning has never been and will never be an easy job.

I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone in class!
