I am excited by this course because I understand that there is a LOT I have to learn about being an effective online educator. I predict (or, at least, I hope) that online education is going to be a part of how we "do" school going forward, and I want to broaden my practice to the point that I am both comfortable and effective in that milieu. As for intentions/goals, I'm looking for tips and strategies for managing time - mine and my students - as a priority, as my experience with online learning revealed that I'm not so great at drawing dividing lines between professional and personal time while teaching online.

My intentions are to explore the different tools that are available and to enter the school year with more in my "teacher toolbox" to keep students engaged in their learning (hopefully while we are together in the classroom!)

by Frances Gunnison
I think this course is valuable in prompting me to both reflect more deeply and learn about the role of technology in teaching and learning. Knowing that humans are hard-wired to want to learn (Aguilar, 2021) and that technology is a vehicle, not an end (Fisher, 2021) are motivating. For my goals, I would like to know more about the impact on learning of various technology, which Fisher (2021) discusses in the Introduction to The Distance Learning Playbook. The author mentions jigsaw, for instance, which I am not aware of. In sum, I want to maximize my learning here so my lessons are more dynamic and stimulating this year.

In the future, I think that there will probably be some expectation of using some online education tools, even to just keep students on pace when they have extended absences. I am hoping to learn new skills and hear what things other people had success with as they navigated online learning. I also think there are a lot of things we learned about teaching and learning while remote that will help us be better educators while face to face in the classroom.

I recognize that I am "sprouting" in the area of remote teaching and learning. I was able to obtain basic skills to support student learning, but am interested in "flourishing". I want to be able to provide the same opportunities for engagement, as well as the same excitement from in-person learning to remote learning. My first goal is to foster online relationships and community building. I believe this was difficult for me to carry over, as my classroom tools were difficult to use online. As I reflect on remote learning, I realize that the academic content was easier to addresss than the social piece.

Also, I am interested in learning about best practices for remote teaching and learning. I have investigated several online options, which was time-consuming and results were hit or miss.

In short, I value relationships of trust and community. I also value active learning where students are excited and engaged. I was fortunate to have started these past two school years with in-person learning, which provided a strong foundation for our remote learning. I am here to learn how to foster relationships, a sense of community, offer collaborative and hands-on learning activities, as well as prompting interest and a desire to learn in a remote environment.

I am eager to learn with you!

I am eager and excited to learn from all my peers and the course instructors. This past year and a half was something we never imagined. However, I feel that there was some very high points as well. One size does not fit all, be it simple as clothing size or or as complex as educational pedagogy ( The only reason I am mentioning it as complex because education has many parts that are integral for students to learn and develop as a whole). I have had students who struggled in remote learning, they lost hope because there was no social connection as such. However, I also had students who thrived in this phase. They showed better engagement.
I was more successful when I had presented my students with an overview and asked them to give me feedback on something that we were doing and what I am planning to do. I learned that giving them active role as planners and with OPTIONS they felt less overwhelmed and part of the process. I've had students who taught me with some tech skills or features that I had not used or was familiar with. They were so observant of any new features that our Google Suite was adding, and they were proud to teach me that :).
It is my hope that I can learn effective UDL principles and model in remote learning to hep my students to reach their full potential.
I am also here to connect with other educators and learn from them.
Finally, I hope to find an effective way of balancing my work and home. After all, we cannot pour from an empty cup!
THANK YOU!!

I value the timing of this course and that it is offered in an asynchronous format. My majority of my focus for the past fifteen months has been directed outward, doing whatever I can to help and support my students, my colleagues. and my family. I feel ready to shift my focus inward and spend some much needed time reflecting on ways I have, as Elena Aguilar described in her article, emerged stronger from this experience. One of my goals for this course is to recognize, and maybe celebrate a little, what I have learned from remote learning thus far. The pressure was intense this year as my priority were placed on what I needed to learn, where I wasn't proficient, and how I could improve. It left me feeling vulnerable and weak. Aguilar states that being able to point to learnings builds resilience, and resilience enables us to thrive, not just survive. I intend to use this course to help me emerge from the survival mode I was in this year and build my strength, my stamina and my confidence. I'm excited by the opportunity to share in this reflection process with other educators as well. It's true that everyone has their own covid story, but teachers really experienced something very unique and I'm looking forward to learning from what we all share in this course. Aguilar describes collective resilience as a group's ability to respond to challenges or unexpected change and as a team get stronger. She wrote that this happens when there is an opportunity to process together what they experienced and share insights. I think that's a big part of what I hope to achieve in this course. I'm looking forward to the time and activities that ask me to look inside and reflect, and also excited to have an opportunity to listen and share with others who are dong the same. I do not want to fail to mention that I'm also very excited to learn about and practice using some great technology resources, too. This course checks so many of the boxes I need right now. I'm glad I found it!

I think after a crazy 15 months of learning to teach a way that seemed so INSANE and impossible, it's nice to look at the other side of things. We all adjusted and learned to teach in a way that took time to learn and figure out. But we did it! All of us. As an educator we are always reflecting on our teaching and if there were things we could have done differently, could have done more of, etc. and after this year I think it's so important to reflect. The course comes at a perfect time because I feel "prepared" with all of these online resources that I have learned about in the past year. My goal is to learn about best practices for teaching remotely - or for learning remotely. And constantly will be self - reflecting on this past year while learning more from this class!

As the school librarian, I am fortunate to work with all grade levels and subjects and I am hopeful that this class will give me guidance on how I can improve on the work that I do with students and teachers. Technology is not going away. Perhaps hybrid teaching is going away either and I want to be on top of the game and able to help my school achieve success in all learning capacities. I feel that remote teaching has made it easier to reach parents and families in the comfort of their homes. I have learned so much this school year however it was isolating because I had no idea what other teachers were doing. I'm so interested in learning what other teachers did and would love to learn more strategies, practices and tools. It's overwhelming to try and find these things online and sometimes a small push in the right directions can help us fly.

My goal is to have my tools and resources to help me feel confident in this new way of teaching.

How do you predict this course might be valuable to you? I think that by taking these next five weeks to reflect on the remote learning experience it will allow me to find the positives I might otherwise have overlooked. I also believe it will allow me to come away with more insight into how to best reach all of my students and their learning needs, in both the traditional and remote setting.

What are your intentions/goals for your learning in this course? My goal for this course is to walk way with more tools for being an effective online teacher, that can also be transferred into the classroom.

It's funny, when I first saw the topic of this course, I thought, well it's a little late. I could have used this a year ago. I had of feeling of wanting to put the last year and a half behind us and move on. Now after just the first week I see how very important it is to reflect on the past year, explore what worked and what didn't and share our experiences. I predict that I will continue to grow in my teaching practices in an online environment (I am teaching students online this summer) and carry much of what I have learned into my physical classroom. I already look back and see how much I have learned and I know that I will take it with me. And I am even more excited to see what comes in the next modules.
What are your intentions/goals for your learning in this course?

I am hoping to come away from this course with some best practices that I can use both online and in my classroom. I am interested to hear more about what worked for others and what did not work. I am always interested in new technology and how I can use it with my students in a truly beneficial way and not just as an "add on" or novelty. And I hope to share what I learn with my fellow teachers and my teaching assistants.

How do you predict this course might be valuable to you?
I think hearing from other educators is always enlightening. I love learning from others who have real experience. I am also excited to find new resources and instructional strategies to use with my students. I think we can use virtual learning in person and remotely to provide more choice for our students.

What are your intentions/goals for your learning in this course?
I would really like to focus more on strategies for K-2 students who are not yet reading. I want to find more ways to make learning using technology more accessible for students who don't always know how to use the tech tools and can't make decisions based on the words in the tool.

This course will be valuable to me because it will take me from teaching in survival mode (most of 2020) to curating an online presence and providing my students with meaningful instruction.

What are your intentions/goals for your learning in this course?
My keystone goal during this course is to cull from the numerous resources I used during pandemic teaching and focus on using them in more meaningful ways both online and in the classroom.

I believe this course will be valuable because, after spending much of SY 21 working remotely, it provides an opportunity for reflection that simply did not exist jumping from term to term. In addition, my district wants to explore the possibility of remote days as an alternative to snow days, so focusing in on good remote instructional practice seems prudent.

What are your intentions/goals for your learning in this course?

Remote learning pushed our school to a 1:1 device model, and arts classes were required to provide instruction in a way where in-person students and remote students were nominally having the same experience (they were not, as the remote students were completely asynchronous for their arts classes while their core classes had live instruction with strictly remote teachers). I would like to be able to improve the design of remote instruction in a way where students who were remote aren't getting a lesser quality of instruction.

I have been interested in developing an online learning lab in our school for years. I think the past year has shown us that we need to transform the way we think about education; and, online learning is going to play a major role in re-defining "how we do school."

What are your intentions/goals for your learning in this course?

Well, primarily, I hope to use the information and skills I learn in this course to improve my classroom teaching. Once I have successfully implemented these skills in my own classroom, I would love to share what I have learned with my classmates.

What are your intentions/goals for your learning in this course?
I am transitioning fully into a technology integrationist position in a middle school next year. I am super excited and I want to make sure that I reflect and do a deeper dive into best practice for online teaching. I firmly believe that online teaching will be a part of our future and we need to look at what teaching looks like in person vs online. I really liked how the video (part of the module 1 resources) outlined the differences between online and in person. I cannot wait to share what I learn with my new colleagues.
