I suppose my background in high school theater came in handy this semester in PCP. For our first section of Devising, I used my knowledge of tableaus that I learned from UIL One Act. In particular, these tableaus gave my group a place to start for our 5-minute skit for our devising project. Had I not mentioned tableaus, I feel as though my group may have had a harder time coming up with ideas.

I would say that my influences for art helped me in the design section of PCP. When we were making our alters, I reflected a lot on what my Uncle Jac had taught me about art, and I used that knowledge to fuel me throughout that project. For context, my uncle taught me how to draw when I was little, and I have and still aspire to be as good as he was at drawing. My uncle was a huge fan of abstract art, so I went for a familiar shape of a person for the art piece I made for design, but then I added flowers coming out from a hole in their head. I also covered their bust in flowers, and each flower had a different meaning. The sunflowers from the head were meant to symbolize new beginnings; while the carnations and black roses represented love and loss.

I would say that my aspiration to costume for either Broadway or film didn't directly get mentioned during PCP. However, I feel as though the playwriting section did actually help me in terms of breaking down a script and understanding it. How is this important to costume design? Well in order to design anything, you need to understand what a script is demanding or asking for. For example if a script is specifically asking for 18th century clothing, you can't put the actors in bell bottoms and cropped tops. In other words, PCP has helped me understand how to break down my process as a designer by also breaking down a play.
