The aspect that I appreciate the most is the versatility of their music; the sombre, nostalgic feeling to the harsh aggressiveness burst of emotion. To me, each Strokes album is a different aspect of growing up. For example, their debut album 'Is This It?' gives me the feeling of being young and pondering about life and genuinely wondering if this is it. Their latest album, The New Abnormal makes me believe that the thoughts conveyed in their lyrics relates to a middle stage of life, where you're still figuring life out but you're a bit older, thus referring to it as a new abnormal.

This is important to me as I aspire for my works to have this much substance to them. I don't want to create work that has no deeper meaning to it. I enjoy looking for the pictures and themes between the lyrics and analysing how they make me feel and how I can incorporate that into my work to make others feel the same thing.

The old school funk/ soul samples such as Chaka Khan to Michael Jackson's P.Y.T, provides a funky, groovy, upbeat sound. I think that they combine the human condition of thinking and feeling with raw acoustic instrumentation, especially on their album, In Rainbows. This is something I definitely strive to achieve in my work as I think this style is the most appealing. 

Another aspect that inspires me is the combination of raw, despotic instrumentation with an electronic component, which is littered throughout their album, Ok Computer. Author Gonzalez, 2023, contends that The Strokes later album, 'First Impressions Of Earth' aggressive tone, vocals and guitar are similar to that of Eddie Vedder. I agree with these statements since I do believe that the vocals and guitars are very similar to those heard throughout Pearl Jams recordds.

I believe this to be true as Julian's songwriting has been more complex and a little stranger to comprehend as more of their albums released. I am of the opinion that as time goes by, his mindset and views have changed which have consequently changed his writing. I believe this to be true as Kanye tends to sample Michael Jackson throughout his work, more specifically in his song 'Good Life' where the background vocals are a pitched up sample of 'P.Y.T' by Jackson.
