CDIC Online Workshop : Academic Committee Key Questions: High Grades and Exam Issues by Luke Kelleher

Given that TCPEP overall graduation grades were higher than Automotive Engineering and Civil Engineering, what other assessment methods might we explore? What are the potential reasons for this? Exam Question Submission Protocol: Is there an existing protocol in the School for agreeing on a deadline for submitting exam questions during the semester? Any other outstanding Exam issues to be dealt with?

Re Overall Grades

MCQs should use a different conversion scale (those with over 90% scoring A's, which are still quite a few of them), as otherwise it results in very high grades.

Luke Kelleher

By week 7, do you mean the 7th week of CHD's academic calendar or 7th week of our teaching? There are two public holidays in September and October this year, which will impact on the teaching timetable. So, week 7 in CHD's academic calendar is too early. Yunpeng

Is there scope to consider photocopying of exam scripts and scure courier of these physical photocopies, instead of scannning? Scanning makes grading much more difficult, about doubling the time required. In addition, it creates additional challenges for JMCs. Retaining originals at Chang'an campus and sending hard copy photocopies to Ireland seems to have many benefits. It would require secure courier and agreement for retention of annotated scripts on UCD campus, but would normalise the approach in line with UCD practices.

Tadhg.
