A treaty puts out benefits as well as obligations for each party, making things fair. Breaking a treaty is very disrespectful, as treaties are almost sacred to the Indigenous peoples. Making a treaty is like a sign of respect. Many treaties were made because the Aboriginals were agreeing to give up their own land in exchange for certain reimbursements.
