A1: These poems allow the women to be free. Many people dismiss the idea of feminism or women standing up for their rights, especially in such conservative and oppressive areas. Because these women cannot openly express what they feel, in fear of getting harmed, abused or wrongly punished, they sort of blow off steam through poetry and their words.

A2: The poems were written in a way that they can not only display their rage but most importantly, spread an important message. For example, the line we heard in the beginning "You won't allow me to go to school, I won't become a doctor. Remember this: One day, you will be sick.". The writer is clearly trying to prove the importance of education and how the outcome will eventually be of service to others. But because it's from the perspective of a woman, it might not be taken seriously or respected, which is why we still need these messages to stop the oppressors.

A3: It has been said in the video that poetry by women is HEAVILY looked down upon, to the point where the writers may be killed. Even the parents of the late poet who committed suicide, want to hide the fact that she had a passion for writing poetry and standing up for her rights, even hiding the real reason for her death.

A4: The women are writing about the issues and discrimination they face for not only being women but also writing poetry, a subject/occupation that is shamed and looked down upon, only when a woman takes part in it. These women can play an important part in literature when it comes to their experiences as being part of a minority that has been abused for a long time.

A5: I think other than death, it would even ruin their social status, not only for them but for their families. In places like India and Afghanistan, the family's whole reputation depends on the women of the family. This is also shown in the segment of the late poet's family. Their reaction was overall very secretive and almost ashamed.

A6: A very important part of protesting for the people you feel are constantly abused is risk. No matter the cost, they have very strong willpower. A battle through poetry seems unlikely but it's a creative form that tells us stories and experiences, while also showing the strength they possess. So risky or not, these women will never stop fighting for their kind, for the present and the future.

These poems allow the women and girls in Afghanistan
to express themselves, as the situation is really bad there, the women are not able to fully express themselves and do something that is extraordinary or have much participation in education, as teenage girls get married at 15/16. The poems need to be kept as a secret, because in Afghanistan, the women don't really have much power, as said in the video, they are "submissive and defeated", and if someone finds out that they are writing poems, the consequences can be that the girl will be beaten, or can even be killed. This is the least they can do to be heard, they use pen names so that their identity doesn't show, and so that they'll stay safe, but it's still a challenge. 1 of the poem was about how girls don't have access to many things, and they are only used or there for marriage, cooking in the kitchen and taking care of the house, and that they shouldn't be allowed to do anything.

"Poetry is the women's movement from inside" The poem allow them to have a free space without any rules that they have to follow. It gives them the voice that has been taken away.

A2: The poems show the trials and tribulations that the women have to face, their sadness, sorrow and anger is written in a form of words that are meaningful and convey a lot of emotions.

A3: They have to keep their identities hidden to avoid putting their lives at risk and putting themselves in danger.

A1: These poems allow women to express themselves and fight against gender inequality enforced by the Taliban as well as stand against gender norms or standards in society. They empower the women of Afghanistan and give them a voice against inequality and oppression.

A2: The poems are simple and short, but at the same time very moving and powerful. They are formed in groups, and the women feed off of each other's ideas and thoughts to create powerful poems. They tell the story and perspective of Afghanistan's women, and reveal harsh truths using wit and clever wordplay. Their rage and frustration can be felt through the poems, which just displays how suffocated and helpless they may feel.

A3: Women have to use pen names to hide their identity, because writing poems in the Taliban oppressed Afghanistan can lead to jail, and being beaten.

A4: The main themes take on by the poems are gender inequality, oppression, education, death and love.

A5: The authors of the poems could face jail time, getting beaten and even death.

A6: They feel suffocated and helpless in the taliban suppressed Afghanistan, and these poems give them a way to fight against that oppression. The situation is so bad in Afghanistan, that they are willing to risk their lives to fight against the system. They are battling not only for themselves but for future generations and for women hundreds of years from now. They're basically saying, what's a life without education, what's a life where you're married at a young age, what's a life where you don't have freedom of though or expression.
