Ratliff has a really good point with this musical element. The nonchalance nature of an artist on the subject of their work definitely serves as a key defining piece of that artwork. To regard ones life work that has become the subject of adoration from peers and strangers alike as unaltering to perception or personality is a very humble thought. To have the ability to humbly be a musical artist is a feat in and of itself, and definitely deserves mention within this book. For an artist to do their own thing at all times and resist the push and pull of societal expectations and wishes is awe inspiring.

That sounds awful, but I bet it caught your attention. Let me explain myself. The song Heroin by Velvet Underground exemplifies the concept of wasteful authority quite well. Ratliff's choice inclusion of this song is, in my opinion the best. Ratliff stated the pinnacle of the wasted authority was the laugh, and I 100% agree. The song is somber and imitates the feelings of heroin extremely well judging by the comment section of the YouTube video. However, the singer let's put a laugh within the son, whether he is breaking character or adding to the bittersweet euphoria of the song, I don't know. I am choosing to believe the primary over the latter. Breaking character in a song is a sure fire way to waste authority

All of their songs start off with the same guitar riff, and are relatively the same. Regardless of the song, you always get a definitive style. They don't have to change themselves to entertain the audience. The audience learns to find the static endearing. Power found within repitiotion can be one of the most powerful kinds. We all love certain riffs, and when we hear them we know they sing and artist. The Ink Spots are kind of like that! Every song starts off the same, and the listener immediately knows what they are in for. That power can not go unrecognized.
