         <description><![CDATA[<div>Different types of knowledge and reasoning abilities can be applicable across various content and grade levels. Below are a few of the different types:<br>-Discrimination: the ability to distinguish one item from another ex. students notice similarities and differences<br>-Factual: the ability to memorize, retain and recall information ex. vocabulary<br>-Proceedural: learning a set of steps that must be followed to complete a task ex. arithmetic&nbsp;<br>-Conceptual: knowledge about principles. Principles may vary in abstraction. <br>-Meta-cognitive: thinking about the strategies we use to tackle tasks. This includes knowledge about how people learn and process information.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <title>What are assistive technology devices and services for promoting access to the general education curriculum?</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>- An assistive technology device can be an item (hoover cane to help the blind), a piece of equipment (motorized wheelchair), or product system (computer with speech output that reads texts).<br>- Assistive technology devices include: talking calculators, electronic books, powered wheel chairs, remote to turn light on/off or open/close doors, toys and games with sound or large game pieces for students with motor problems, etc.<br>- An assistive technology service is a service that assists a student with a disability in the use of an assistive technology device.<br>- Assistive technology services include training  technical assistance for student and/or family, purchasing/ leasing AT.<br>- Devices can go home with students so the family needs to know how to properly use them (training).<br>- Assistive technology devices and services go together. For example, one might need to know how the device may be purchased.<br>- An AT technologist works with teachers to determine the student's strengths and weaknesses with the assistive technology device.<br><br><br></div>]]></description>
