I would like to know about any DESE requirements of what should be taught in CS and how it aligns to any requirements to graduate to make sure we offer classes if we start a CS pathway at high school to ensure we meet requirements. glimperis@lowell.k12.ma.us

Flipped Internships

My district has a great school to career program and interships for all seniors but I feel like we hit a wall when it comes to internships in the tech field that are meaningful. We don't have a ton of businesses on the Cape that could host students, many people are just one person running a business in their home and students can't really go there so I love this idea of having people from anywhere in the world and meeting with students regularly on Zoom. I think that would really help broaden the options for internships in all kinds of tech fields for us.

I would like to focus on foundational courses. Right now, our high school and middle school have limited courses involving CS. Right now, only ALL elementary students are required to take a computer/technology class.

I would like to bring this idea to our school to career counselor. We have a capstone project.

We have a large gender disparity in all of our CS classes, except AP CSP interestingly. I like the idea of revisiting the course description!

Our high school (Norton, MA) is in the planning stages of creating an innovation pathway. I'm sure the admin team would love to hear more about making flipped internships work within the school schedule.

Looking to revise our foundational course offerings. Will definitely take ideas from the equity tips.

This idea might be an easier place to start with students already having the option of Capstone independent projects.

We are working on aligning the DLCS curriculum K-8, and hosting a career fair in the middle of eighth grade, to expose ALL students to DLCS BEFORE they get to high school. We are hoping students will then choose into taking DLCS courses (all electives) when they get to the high school. tdavis@awrsd.org

I would like to look more deeply at this information and discuss with my high school team. Right now our pathway is completely elective. I would like to investigate the Algebra II / Math 3 +Data
