Motivation is the inner state that causes an individual to behave in a way that ensures the accomplishment of some goal. The four most important theories are needs-goal theory, vroom expectancy theory, equity theory and the porter-lawler theory. They all focus on the steps that occur when an individual is motivated. When it comes to working in the restaurant business my motivation is the tip money I will be receiving from the tables I am serving. Every shift I work my goal is to a lot of money at the end of my shift.

I liked this model when it comes to making decisions. I myself would say that as a manager myself and the employees meet as a group to discuss the situation at hand, but I make the decision on my own about what is to be done. I do like to hear other points of view before making a decision on a matter in the restaurant.

I enjoy reading articles with interviews especially when they give advice on matters to younger workers like myself. It most certainly encourages me to continue working hard to reach my goals and maybe be the person getting interviewed on being successful in life.

The controlling process is important when it comes to an organization. Control ensures that an event occurs as it was planned to occur. Controlling is the process managers go through to control. Since I've been a waitress at Dick's Wings I can tell you that we have been through multiple controlling systems due to the feedback and actions of the customers and staff and each time we try to correct the changes to best fit at the time.

I recently found out about Toyota's recalls from our module 8 discussion board. As I stated in my post I was more than surprised to find this information out because I've always heard positive things about Toyota. It's obvious that their formal controlling process was not effective and the managers were not ensuring such unplanned events. Although Toyota takes corrective action most of these recalls could have been prevented if management was focusing on the machinery and employees dealing with it.

Productivity is the relationship between the total amount of goods or services being produced and the organizational resources needed to produce them. I've always been familiar with what productivity means but I never knew there was an equation involved: Productivity=Outputs/ Inputs.

Deming's flow diagram for improving product quality is simple yet effective. It eliminates barriers between the company and the customer, between the customer and the suppliers, and between the company and its employees. After reading about this chart and better understanding its concepts I wouldn't mind trying this method to improve quality within the restaurant.
