All About the Flu and How to Prevent It:

(Summary)

One of the central ideas of an article published by The National Institute on Aging is, the influenza virus can affect everyone all around the world, no matter the age of the victim. One example of this is that the flu can spread throughout the air and by touch. This shows that the flu can easily spread and effect everyone in its path. Flu shots can help save lives and protect people from the flu. According to the same article, you should get a flu shot every year because the flu is ever changing and always evolving. This also helps prove that even though you may have had a past flu shot, you can still be affected. These two example illustrate that the flu is a very serious virus and needs to be treated that way. The flu is so serious that over 80,000 people die each year. This shows that the virus can have major effects on people and their lives forever. The influenza virus is incredibly dangerous and must be taken seriously. These are just a few reasons supporting the main idea that the flu is highly contagious and can affect everyone.

Medieval Human Plague Still Lurking in Western U.S. States

An article published by Newsela writes and explains about how the once extremely deadly disease known as the plague is still affecting people to this day. The plague also known as the Black Death was a widespread disease that killed nearly Europe’s entire population in the 14th century; however, as the article depicts the illness did not die out with its victims for it is still occurring. For example, it states, in 2015 there was a found 320 cases of the plague which included 77 deaths. This shows both the amount of reported cases occurred and the amount of lives being lost due to this cause both of which are happening today. Additionally, it was found that in 2015 there was a rise in human cases in California; consequently, the state begun fighting back by taking precautions mainly regarding how the disease is being caused. This illustrates that the Plague, while not killing the majority of populations as it used to, is still hurting enough lives and impacting many to begin finding a solution to this current issue. Lastly, it specifically states that the mortality rates had once ranged from 66 to 93 percent; however, the rates decreased to about 16 percent due to the significant increase of medical knowledge found in the last century. This further verifies that yes there is a low amount of current Plague cases compared to centuries ago, but it is still a number larger than zero therefore the disease is still occurring. Overall this article proves the point that the Plague is an illness that still concerns the lives of some today.

Food-borne disease infections are on the rise. Here are the most common

Article link: https://www.cnn.com/2019/04/25/health/foodborne-illnesses-cdc-study/index.html

In an article explaining about food borne disease, a main idea is found that diseases caused by food are skyrocketing and pose possible serious threat to a human's health. For example, while the author was writing about one infection that can come from food, Campylobacter, the percent of how many people were hospitalized due to this disease is found, "The bacteria is transferable to humans from animals that show no signs of infection poultry is a major source... Campylobacter which causes diarrhea hospitalized 18% of patients according to the report.” As this evidence expresses, this disease has put 18% of all patients into a hospital, showing how many people have been affected from this possibly lethal disease; further, the fact that they were even hospitalized, shows thatdisease was so serious it needed medical treatment. Additionally, another disease is described with the ways you can catch the infections and the results of it, "Humans can contract vibrio by consuming shellfish such as oysters that aren't fully cooked symptoms range from mild intestinal problems to serious infections that result in amputation of limbs the CDC said.". This proves that the consequences of the disease, as well as many others, range from not serious, to extremely grave, showing the threat of these diseases. Lastly, the number of deaths and diagnoses ensuing from Salmonella, another food borne disease, is stated, “’Approximately 450 deaths occur each year from the 1.2 million cases of salmonellosis that occur in the US. Individuals that are particularly susceptible to Salmonella infection include the very young the very old and people with weakened immune systems’ said Catherine Donnelly a professor of food science at the University of Vermont.” This final piece of evidence further shows how great amounts of people are being affected by these infections, demonstrating the steep rise of diagnoses and cases of the variety of diseases developed by food. Furthermore, the multitude of people likely to be a victim of salmonella is explained, showing how almost anyone can be affected. In all, the main idea that diseases caused by food have extremely risen and can have critical affects is prevalent in the article, “Food-borne disease infections are on the rise. Here are the most common.”
This picture shows how your food may be infected with bacteria, a virus, etc.

Two studies prove Ebola virus infects humans more easily, is deadlier part 1

One of the central ideas of Two studies prove Ebola virus infects humans more easily, is deadlier is, Ebola is now stronger then ever and can now infect humans more than ever before and is greatly lethal. Genetic mutations is believed to be the reason for this major outbreak. Studies have shown that the virus became better at invading human cells. According to, two studies prove Ebola virus infects humans more easily, is deadlier, " this is the first piece of evidence that the genetic change likely speed up the spread of the virus. The change also may have made the virus more deadly for humans," (two studies prove Ebola virus infects humans more easily, is deadlier). The virus is now more contagious thus making the outbreak stronger. The Ebola virus is clearly deadly as demonstrated in the outbreak in Africa. According to two studies prove Ebola virus infects humans more easily, is deadlier, " the 2013-16 Ebola outbreak seeped across borders and killed more than 11,000 people,"( two studies prove Ebola virus infects humans more easily, is deadlier). The cause of this deadly outbreak is still not completely known. There are many theories in how the lethal virus started. Two studies prove Ebola virus infects humans more easily, is deadlier, stated that, "the virus was likely spread among fruit bats," (two studies prove Ebola virus infects humans more easily, is deadlier). The normal virus is not as deadly so these two studies prove that the genetic code of the virus has been slightly modified. This modification makes the virus twice as deadly. According to two studies prove Ebola virus infects humans more easily, is deadlier," Ebola has been mutated in a way that could help the virus's ability to infect human cells," (two studies prove Ebola virus infects humans more easily, is deadlier). These two studies prove that the virus is more infectious and deadly. This also proves that the disease is more complex then we have once thought.

this is a picture of the virus up close
