Far transfer of learning is much different from one another. Transfer of learning occurs but it dissimilar situations. For instance, enrolling in math courses to better help you as an engineer. Both are entirely different from one another however, the skill set in math will transfer over into skill set needed for engineer designing strategies so, far transfer of learning actually occurs here even if it is harder to identify.

-Find out what is actually worth learning first!

-What will be useful down the road in later work?

-What can be done to better prepare you for the requirements of society?

There is distinction between Automatic use of skills and prior knowledge such as reading and writing used in everyday applications; and there is Thoughtful transfer of knowledge and strategy used to arrive at creative solution and problem solving methods. Automatic benefits from practice in different situations. Thoughtful requires more than practice, initial learning process combined with the reusing and apply method. Thoughtful transfer also is an essential requirement of mindful abstraction- which is deliberate identification of a principal or concept.
