They were invited there by the reformers Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucretia Mott. In the Seneca Falls Convention, they agreed American women were individuals who deserved their own identities.

“We hold these truths to be self-evident,” said the Declaration of Sentiments that the delegates produced, “that all men and women are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain inalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” They believed women should have the right to vote, and equality for women in all cases.
