I love using whiteboards to assess individual learning in a whole group setting! I ask a question... allow students to show their learning on the board (hiding answers!) Students show their answers when I count to 3 and I give a thumbs up/thumbs down. If they get a thumbs down they will try to rework it/ we might meet about it. Sometimes students will get to explain their work under the document camera.. They love being little teachers!

These allow me to gather information on who may need RTI as well. My students enjoy using sticky notes. I think it makes them feel "cool".

Stand up, hand up, pair up is one of my favorite formative assessments. Students are able to talk to multiple partners and gain new knowledge with each partner. I am freed up to walk around and listen to their discussions and assess their learning. Students are also able to reteach or elaborate as needed.
