In my three weeks here, I connected with senior team members to help me in writing a comprehensive report about issues local to Syros. Since the environment here is so unique, it was a learning experience that is truly unmatched! Marina and the other employees here were fantastic, and I loved staying on the island!

During the three weeks, I had the time to discover the island and its dynamics while connecting with the team members and senior researchers living in the base. I'm truly grateful to the team for their effort in helping me get a combrehensive understanding of the island. The experience was unforgettable, and I’ve made great memories. The unique setting made everything even more special !

I came on my summer break as a school teacher looking for a very different Greek island experience than what you see on social media, and the amazing team at Apano Meria provided me with just that. Syros is such a beautiful island full of people with so much rich history, l feel very lucky to have had this peaceful experience. Even though l was the only volunteer at the cooperative, the team constantly did their best to include me in all of their work. I helped out around the base, but also got to go work with the farm a couple of days too!

I LOVED Syros, and definitely plan to come back. Everyone at the SCE is so nice and welcoming you will never feel out of place. During however long your stay is, you will have more than enough time to commit to your research while also allowing you to explore the beautiful island for yourself. I have so much appreciation for the Apano Media Koinsep Family and hope to come back again in the future. There are always feelings of nerves when doing something like this but they all went away immediately when I met like-minded individuals all clearly committed to change. Thank you guys, and it’s not goodbye it’s see you later😊

It was a real pleasure to help the association in the lab. We have a learn about plastic recycling, what is feasible and the limits. The welcome and friendliness of all the staff were really appreciated. The mission is ideally located on a paradisiac island and easy to visit with a scooter.

Those 2 weeks in Syros were really cool, really chill. The plastic recycling programme enables you to also discover the island, enjoy its beauty, its beaches, bars, hikes etc. We also managed to go visit another island during our days off. the mission itself was cool, we learned how to recycle plastic, and we did some cool key holders. The people from the SCE is also all super nice, the house is cool. We had a great 2 weeks :)

I spent three weeks volunteering with the Apano Meria SCE KINSEP and it was honestly one of the most fulfilling experiences of my time in Greece. The work is very independently driven, which gave me the freedom to dive deep into my research while also having flexible hours to enjoy the island—whether that was scuba diving, island hopping, or relaxing at Asteria Beach. Ermoupoli and Ano Syros are stunning (and you can’t miss getting a Freddo Cappuccino!). The accommodation was comfortable and well-maintained, and the people I worked with were so kind, supportive, and always made sure I had what I needed. The highlight was definitely the mix of meaningful research, cultural immersion, and daily life on a beautiful island. I would recommend this program to anyone who wants both serious research experience and the chance to enjoy the best of Syros.

During the two weeks I’ve spend in Syros I had the opportunity to learn how to upcycle plastic and also to visit all the island and some othe islands on the days off. Also shared good moments with the SCE members.
