Deforestation & Desertification leading to Political Activism - Gabe

Deforestation in and of itself is environmental change, just a man made one. The process of globalization leading to a spread of technologies and need for more resources brought deforestation to the world on a larger scale. When looking at images where deforestation underwent, the difference before and after is stark. Seeing this damage has led to more anti-deforestation protests or Save the Rainforests movements. So, the process of deforestation and desertification has lead to a greater environmental awareness in the general population.

A cause of environmental change is deforestation. There have been higher rates of deforestation due to how much of a staple wood is and has been in society. Wood is used for many things like furniture, paper, fuel, etc. Deforestation is encouraged and sponsored by big corporations that profit immensely from it and there are tons of those. Not to mention the lower scale farmers who often clear land of trees to make space for farm land. Deforestation has profound effects on the environment and these effects include climate change, habitat loss, erosion, etc.

Deforestation intensified the competition for raw materials and increased the loss of habitat for wildlife. With a growing lack of plants and trees, more arable land becomes denser due to the lack of natural resources (without trees there's a lack of natural CO2 emissions and organic matter that causes environments to act as a desert). With these environmental changes, wildlife survival rates have decreased and continue to climb.

The rapid expansion of industrialization and urbanization in the early 20th century, driven by the growth of fossil fuel-based industries, led to a significant increase in air and water pollution, resulting in the widespread degradation of natural ecosystems and a decline in environmental quality, with far-reaching consequences for human health, climate change, and biodiversity loss.
