One of the most important environmental problems nowadays is the contamination of water by different materials that interfere with human health. The Ganges river in India is one of the most polluted in the world. This is a serious problem because this river provides water to 40% of the population in the country, so it is important to analyse the causes, the effects and the solutions to the contamination.
First, waste and religious traditions are the major causes of contamination. People who live near The Ganges throw a lot of rubbish to the river, contaminating it. Also, the religious people in India believe that they will correct the errors of their loved ones by throwing their ashes into the river, and sometimes even their bodies, when they die.
Second, the contamination of the river can result in problems on the health of people and animals. People can suffer from serious illnesses, and even death, when they use the river for bathing, washing clothes, cooking and drinking. Also, animals who live in the river or drink its water can be poisoned and die because of the high levels of contamination.
Finally, all the people depend on water to live, so we should educate others to protect the rivers and oceans, and we should stop throwing rubbish into the water. If we all do our part, we can continue having clean and pure water.
