This is my first semester & first year in the university. I'm taking Bachelor of Communication (Strategic Communication) with Honours here in Universiti Malaysia Sarawak. With Interpersonal Communication as one of it core subject in first semester, from the first week until the final week, I have learnt so many things about the subject. There's a lot of topics to discuss on and to think that actually I just know that we actually learn communication make it even more interesting. Throughout the semester, our lecturer Dr. HJH SITI HASLINA HUSSIN which we call Ummie is our lecturer on the subject. She tutor us very well and the way she always makes us seat in our designated group each class is very stimulating. By doing this, I get it that we have to communicate with others to make a team and we always asked to discuss in a group. Ummie doesn't like it if we sit side by side because she said it will lead to miscommunication that is why we always sit at the stairs if we're in group discussion because we need to have eye contact in order to have that good communication with each other. During the first week, we are told to make a mini resume in a piece of paper talking about ourselves in the paper. The next week, we are told to form a group by Ummie, we selected our members through a question on a paper, if we have the same question on the paper, that will be our group members throughout the semester. I feel like I learn so much from Interpersonal Communication. I learn how to communicate with others properly and also learn how to communicate with myself as well, about culture and gender, our perception on others or others perception on us. I also gain knowledge about language, how to lend your ear to listen carefully, also that having different kind emotion is normal, Forming and maintaning a relationship (very heavy on this one) and also how to manage conflict. After I gain an understanding about Interpersonal Communication, I think I started to know about myself more and how to interact with others in detail. I know that we have to be very concious about the way we talk so that we don't offend anyone. This include the alertness on how we use our language especially when we're in foreign places. Besides that, I think forming and maintaining a relationship has become one of the most important elements for me right now. Since we have so many relationship with a lot of people either romantically, friendship with our family as well. It is very important to maintain our relationship because you know how much value someone can add in your life by having them by your side. I also think that if someone no longer serves you, that will be the time for you to cut them off. I feel like emotion plays a big role in our daily life. Eventhough, it said in the book that emotion is short-termed i refused to believe it because for me, emotion can last long depending on the situation.
