Amirah Aida binti Abdul Rahim (A168302) - 11/07/2021

My progress so far...

Assalamualaikum and hello everyone! As I already said in my previous entry, on third week, I'll be learning about places, weather, occupation and time. My progress went so well so far that I managed to complete all 4 topics given in 5 days and I used the remaining 2 days to explore about editing. This is as a preparation for my final video submission later because only God knows how bad I am with editing.

At first, I thought it was hard for me to master 4 topics in a week, but as people said, when there's a will, there's a way. With determination and hard work, I able to finish all the task within the time provided and I even passed my quizzes on my first attempt (yay! :D)

I used the remaining days to learn about editing where I started with survey a few apps that are recommended for students, and make a simple short video to get familiar with it.

My feelings and thoughts

I am happy and satisfied with my achievement this week because I think I started to be more competent in this field as I learnt. I teach my sister on some sign language basic gesture and now, she can introduce herself with sign language fluently. I'm a proud teacher indeed! I hope she can widened this knowledge so people can appreciate the importance of this language. Without our consciousness, we actually can help to improve the Deaf's socio-economy and well-being if we all know how to communicate in sign language.

How I learn and apply the skill of decision making in my EP journey?

I applied this skill as soon as I had to choose a project for my EP course. At the beginning, I have a few list of projects that I can put as a consideration. Taekwondo and sewing skills are one of them. I first thought that sign language course is boring because I prefer something outdoor and challenging. But, as I look into it from every aspects, I believe fun is not the only point to be observed. I should contemplate about current SOPs, strict guidelines, this pandemic and also my precious holiday time.

After I evaluate all the pros and cons, and asked for a rational judgement from my parents, I conclude that this course is the best for me because compared to others, it was held online so I will not physically exposed to many people. Plus, I can learn new skills while enjoying my holiday at the same time.

How I manage my time throughout this EP journey?

I've made a time table (click here) for me to refer to as soon as I started joined this course (on 21 Jun 2021). With that, I can keep myself on track every day and I managed to finish my task within the time given. The only delay is on my final report submission because the format was just given to us this week. Now that I've finished my EP project (on last 17 July 2021), I can focus on my final report.

My plan for next week (Week 4)

For my fourth week, I will learn about festivals in Malaysia. This will be my last topic on this course and after that, I have to submit my final assignment as a proof I've ended the course. I will start my video editing and also reflective writing as soon as I settle down with the assignments.

Nurul Nazmin Aida Binti Khairul Nizam (A163598)
23/08/2021

My progress so far

Hi everyone ! Hope you guys have a good day ahead. As now we have entered the third week of elective posting, so I will be learning about numbers and emotions. My progress so far went quite well. On the first day of the third week, I've spent my time by learning the numbers first. I'll try to practice and master it by 2 days of learning it. Then I spent the remaining days by learning emotions sign language. It was quite interesting because I was able to do the emotions sign language to my sister whenever I'll try to express about what I'm felt at the moment.

I always practice the sign language in front of the mirror by myself or practice it with my sister. My sister is like my study partner for this elective posting. It was like I'm doing some gesture while my sister try to guess what sign was I'm doing and vice versa. I was able to remember it better in this way.

Learning the numbers was quite easy and simple actually. The true challenge for me was learning the emotions. It was because some of the gesture was quite complex. Hopefully I was able to do it nicely for video presentation later.

My feelings and thoughts

I am very happy, excited and proud with my improvement in sign language this week because I think I started to be more confident in doing the hand gesture for this elective posting. The best thing was that I was able to make some conversations with my sister too and most importantly we understand each other XD

How I learn and apply the skill of decision making in my EP journey?

I applied this skill at the very beginning of my EP journey. I always wanted to learn sign language but did not have the proper time to learn it. So when we were given opportunity to learn anything for our elective posting, I immediately thought of learning sign language. I always thought sign language is a superb thing to learn and implement it in our daily life.

So after thinking for quite sometimes, I think sign language is the best thing to do for my EP as I need to consider about Covid - 19 pandemic situation whereby we need to minimize or avoid physical contact and being at crowded places. By learning sign language, I just can join some online courses that being provided over the internet. Thus, less contact with people.

How I manage my time throughout this EP journey?

I manage my time by followed my own time table whereby I would spend 20 minutes everyday to learn the sign language and another 10 minutes I would spend to revise back of what I had learned previously. I would not feel much pressure while learning it with this time manage as learning sign language is a leisure and fun thing to do.

My plan for next week (Week 4)

For my fourth week, I will learn about personality adjectives and dialogues. This will be my final topic of learning sign language. After that, I will start on my video editing and reflective writing. So stay tune XD

Mohd Ridzwan Bin Arman (A168589)

24/08/2021

2. Your progress so far

My progress so far….

Hello everyone! I hope guys have a good day and stay safe. So my progress for third week is I continue learn another topics for sign language as I mention on previous week which is I have covered colours, introducing family member, and places. According to my plan, everything went well without any obstacle and problem as I managed to complete all three topics plus complete the task that given through the topic.

As what I have done the week before, it was the same this week where I need to pass all the quizzes and post video of us performing sign language that we have learned from the topics.

3. Your feelings and thoughts

I am very proud and satisfied with myself for completing this topic although it was very challenging and confusing. As for me, it takes time to understand new topic and perform the sign language right away. So, I need to be patients and keep repeating watching the learning material and practice over and over.

4. How did you learn and apply the skill of decision making in your EP journey?

I applied this skill at first moment I choose a project for my Elective Posting courses. To be honest, learn sign language was not in my list at all because I am not really interested to it. I have a few list before I decided to do sign language such as martial arts, calisthenics, and singing. Before this, I think I really want to learn any martial arts cause I loved to being active and healthy, but with our current condition it was impossible same goes to calisthenics plus the fee was so expensive and I cannot afford it. After that, learn to sing was also on my top list because love singing but the fee for that course stopping me from choosing it.

After taking so long to decide, I ask for my friend suggestion and he suggest sign language where the fee is affordable plus it also beneficial for me in the future.

I think it is not about what I love to do but I have to consider many things including pros and cons. After considering so many factors such as affordable fee, time with family members not be sacrifices, plus it also give benefits in term of communication so I decided to choose sign language as my EP project

5. How did you manage your time throughout this EP journey?

I did not have any specific time to do my EP as I can do anytime I want or whenever I have free time. Since I am bit late start my EP and plus I am at home during I started this, so I will just learn the course whenever I have free time. However, I have already plan that every week I must finish and cover 2-3 topics per week as this course have 9 topics plus one final task so it is easy to divide by topics per week.

8. Your plan for next week (Week 4)

My plan for week 4 is to cover topics occupation, festival, weather and scheduled plus focus on my report

Weekly progress

For the 3rd week the activity is still same which is learning another 5 new recipes and to try out one of them. I learned the recipes of daging halia masak jintan, gulai udang, apam pisang, puteri ayu cheese and nekbat terengganu. Out of these, i tried out the gulai udang as it is my favourite dish.

3. Your feeling and thoughts.

I really enjoyed the 3rd week session as i got to learn 3 desserts. I have a sweet tooth so i can’t help but feeling super excited to learn them. Puteri ayu cheese and nekbat are very familiar to me, my grandparents usually bought them for evening tea, learning these recipes somehow remind me of them and my hometown :]

4. How did you learn and apply the skill of decision making in your EP journey.

So far, there wasn’t any complex decision that i came across throughout these past few weeks but the closest issue that i faced was working with the flavours. I find it really hard to find balance in the taste. When it comes to choose the right ingredients to alter the taste, i had to re-taste a couple of times before i eventually figured out the missing ingredient. Other than that, i realised that reading other people’s share/post about their tips and ‘special methods’ really helps a lot in me making my decision in order to come up with a well balanced falovoursome dishes.

5. How did you manage your time throughout this EP journey

Time management is not an issue for me because this course is carried out online and they are flexible. The learning materials are made available online and are accessible 24/7. I usually make time to watch the lessons video at night. So i have enough time to find the ingredients needed and if need to buy, i could quickly run for some grocery in the morning. The other supplementary videos, i just watch them in between my rest time. The videos are short and interesting so i dont mind watching them. To be honest, i enjoy watching them. Before i try out the recipes i learned, i usually google some tips from other cooks just to add on some touch in hope they come out scrumptious. Che nom and khairul aming’s youtube channel do helps me a lot (even for non EP recipes) their videos are catchy and easy to follow.

8. Plan for next week

Since its almost reaching the end of EP, my assessment is just around the corner. Might try googling other recipes from renown cooks in hope i found some interesting and useful tips. Im going to try out few new recipes as practice so i could boost my confidence and helps to reduce my anxiety when the assessment day finally come.

2. Your progress so far
This week I learned about common phrases such as I'm sorry, how are you and thank you

3. Your feelings and thoughts
I felt very excited about it as even though it might seem simple, it is actually very useful in daily interaction and communication. I am very lucky that one of my online acquaintances recommended watching this video to me as a beginner in learning ASL

4. How did you learn and apply the skill of decision making in your EP journey?
As a beginner in learning ASL, there are a lot of choices of topic that I can learn the signs to and also I have a bit of trouble due to my absence of acquaintances that I know that use or learn ASL. Therefore, I make decision on which topic to learn based on the usability of them in real life. This is because my main objective is to be able to communicate with people who used ASL in real life better and hopefully be a helpful person if needed in the future for them, so, common topics are really a priorities in achieving that objective. Next, I decided to practice on my own even without having partners to practice with and gather tips and helps from online communities to be better in learning and memorising ASL.

5. How did you manage your time throughout this EP journey?
I made a list of activities that I need to finish for that week and I sequenced them according to their importance and assigned a specific duration needed for them to be done/finished. I didn't assigned specific time due to living at home doesn't actually give me access of having a consistent daily routine due to interference with chores, family activities etcs. Therefore, I just tried to finish my planned activities whenever I have free time. Using this method, I can avoid unnecessary stress due to having to cancel my plan and delay it to another time if I had assigned activites to certain time period. I found assigning time duration instead of time period work better and more stress free.

8. Your plan for next week (Week 4)
I planned on learning emotions and numbers as well as preparing the draft for my report and poster.

Your progress so far

In my third week, I have learned other 5 recipes which were Daging Halia Masak Jintan, Gulai Udang, Apam Pisang, Puteri Ayu Cheese and Nekbat Terengganu. I chose Daging Halia Masak Jintan from those 5 recipes for my weekly cooking because it’s been a while since the last time I had beef in my meals.

3. Your feelings and thoughts

At first, I thought of trying out the Puteri Ayu Cheese but I’m afraid it might turn out different because I have never eaten it. I always had Puteri Ayu original version but not with the cheese. Hence, I don’t know how does it taste and because of that I decided to go for Daging Halia Masak Jintan. Actually , truth to be told, my skills for baking are quite poor. I can cook but I can’t bake. I remembered I tried to make a moist chocolate cake once but it turned out as dry. I may consider to try out the Puteri Ayu Cheese but I need to build my self confidence in baking first.

4. How did you learn and apply the skill of decision making in your EP journey?

For the skill of decision making, I think it was when I need to choose what kind of course I would like to take for my elective posting. I was considering of choosing either cooking class or gardening class as they are my hobbies. However, due to the weather and plants do take some time to grow, I decided to go for cooking skills class. In my cooking class, I found out that cooking really requires us to apply decision making. As example, before cooking, I need to prepare for the cooking ingredients and ensure the measurements are complete so that my cooking journey is going smoothly. Not only that, I also need to buy the ingredients myself to the nearest market. It also teaches me on deciding amount of certain ingredients I need to buy such as vegetables to avoid it go to the bin because certain ingredients such as mustard green can get rotten easily if not stored well. Especially since there are only two person in my house , so if I bought a lot of ingredients that easily rotten, it will be such a waste.

5. How did you manage your time throughout this EP journey?

For the time management, I think it’s quite tricky for me because my cooking class schedule is flexible which means, it depends on me to decide when I want to attend the class. We need to watch cooking videos provided by our instructor and try out one recipe per week via online. I usually watch the videos on weekdays and trying out the recipe on the weekend. They’re also some videos we need to watch on YouTube from well-known YouTuber and chef such as Che Nom, Gordon Ramsay and CznBurak which I usually watch them on Saturday night. To make sure I’m committed to the class, I do prepare slots for the class on my personal planner. I spares 3-4 hours to try out one menu per week which usually I did on Saturday evening.

8. Your plan for next week (Week 4)

For the next week, I will try out 2 menu as my assessment day is around the corner. Also, I think I will try out some other menus by myself so that my assessment will go smooth, hopefully.

Nur Farah Dhaniyah binti MUhammad Fadzil A168436 (18/8)

Your progress so far

As I mention in last post, in the third week I want to learn about how to make western dishes. So this week I try to make a recipe I learned from the course that supposedly beef kebab, but change it to a beef wrap. other than that I also learn 3 more recipes such as salted egg chicken, chicken madras and creamy butter chicken.

Your feeling and thoughts

I feel very satisfied and happy with this week progression. Actually, this dish was requested by my younger sister who happen to see me learning how to do beef kebab during the class. The feedback she gave me was great and my food actually comfort her during her exam.

How did you learn and apply the skill of decision making in your EP journey?

I think when I start my practical phase. I learn that I need a good decision making skill in planning what to cook first, what ingredients should I use and how to continue cook the dishes if anything goes wrong. As I mention above, I changed the outcome from beef kebab to beef wrap. This was because at that time I dont have kebab bread at home and it will be waste of money if I just go and buy it at the shop so I use wrap bread instead. This is one example of scenario when I apply decision making skill.

How did you manage your time throughout this Ep journey?

I tried to set an aim and plan accordingly beforehand so that I achieved something before the weeks end. But sometimes, problems may appear and the plan was overschedule but its not a big issue as I still managed to finish that in the end.

Your plan for next week (week4)

My plan is to finish another 2 course and if possible also learn new recipes from my parents and youtube to gain more knowledge.

SWAATHI A/P ANBALAGEN (A168366),16 August 2021

Your progress so far

Hi everyone. For my 3rd week of EP i have baked a Marble Butter Cake. Marble Butter Cake always been my favourite and it’s super easy to make. However this cake didn’t turned out as I expected. The cake was dense but not as fluffy and moist as I expected.Nevertheless the cake was scrumptious.I learnt about do and dont’s to make the perfect cake.I also made progress in Recipe E-book.I designed cover page for my E-book and managed to compile top 10 favourite recipes of mine that i got it from various websites.

Your feelings and thoughts

By the end of my 3rd week, I feel fascinated about the science involved in each and every steps of baking.I feel happy that I am able to apply whatever i learnt in my baking.I feel that my baking skills have been improving.I’m excited to try more new recipes and share the happiness with my family.I feel motivated when my family members appreciate and praise my baked goods.

How did you learn and apply the skill of decision making in your EP journey?

Decision making skill is one of important lesson i learnt and needed to apply in this EP. Right from the beginning from choosing the right course till baking a cake everything involves me making the right decision. For instance, before baking a cake,I have to do a thorough research about recipes and choose the most suitable cake for me to do,that I feel i can pull it off. Then, when it comes to ingredients,I have to decide which ones to use in order to get perfect end results. Besides, baking is definitely time consuming,so decision making is vital to avoid wasting too much of time. I need to decide which tasks to be done first to ensure smooth flow of baking process. For instance, preheating oven and weighting out ingredients at beginning saves more time rather than doing it in between the process.

How did you manage your time throughout this EP journey?

I manage my time by planning ahead the activities that i should do in a week at the starting of the week. I make a to-do list for my EP posting every week and abides it strictly.I’ll make sure that i replace for the days where I couldn’t stick to my to-do list. I’m spending about 2 hours per day from Mondays -Thursdays by researching about recipes, watching YouTube videos, working on my E-book and so on.On Fridays,I spent about 3-4 hours for baking as it is a time consuming process. As I mentioned earlier, planning ahead saves me time and ensure a smooth baking process.

Your plan for next week (Week 4)

My plan for Week 4 is to complete my Recipes E-book. I have some final touch-ups to get it done.I’m also planning to start working on my presentation video. I have recorded few videos during the process. Now i have to compile those videos and pictures and come up with a final video. Finally I’m also planning to bake another cake probably cream cakes.

SOFEA NAJIHA BINTI MUHAMMAD SHAFIQ
A168214
20th August 2021

Your progress so far

I would say my progress is great so far and im really proud on how many things i have learnt so far. This week i learnt another 3 recipes and managed to try cook one of it which is ketam masak lemak cili api. Initially, the recipe i learnt from the course was using prawns but i changed it to crabs since my family and i love crabs so much. My family loves my ketam masak lemak cili api so much and they asked me to cook it again next time and it really makes me feel happy to see my family loves my cooking. I learnt a lot of new tips from the online cooking course on how to make sure my cooking is not over cooked especially when it involves seafood. I am still learning on how to do a nice plating for all my cooking.

Your feelings and thoughts

I feel very happy to see how well my progress so far and I am proud to say that i can actually cook good food now. It is really satisfying to see people especially my own family members love to eat the food i cook and finish them all.

How did you learn and apply the skill of decision making in your EP journey?

I think i had to apply the skill of decision making starting from the time i had to choose the right course for my elective posting. I was confused whether to choose learn cooking or be a volunteer at a vaccination centre as i love to do a volunteering job as well. However, i had to re-sit for one of my paper and i feel like learning cooking is more easier and flexible for me as i could do it online. Other than that, when i started to try cook some of the recipe i learnt on how to balance the taste of the food as well as to change some of the ingredients if i do not have them at home by using decision making skills.

How did you manage your time throughout this EP journey?

Eventhough i had a paper to re-sit, it was not a problem for me in managing my time as my cooking course classes were online and the time was flexible as i had to look at the videos provided. I set a goal every week to make sure my elective posting project progress is also well and make sure i had enough time to study for my paper too. Usually i will look at the videos during the weekend and try to get the ingredients needed and try to cook for lunch and dinner during one of the weekdays.

Your plan for next week (Week 4)

My plan for week 4 is to learn more recipes and learn more on tips to do plating to make my food looks delicious and tempting.

There were a total of 7 sections with 1 quiz each. I have completed all the quizzes and managed to look through the given notes as well. Besides that, I also did some extra readings and watched few videos on YouTube to improve my knowledge on baking.
I have also tried my hands on baking muffins. For my third week, I baked a coconut-banana-chocolate chip muffin. Although the name might sound a little sophisticated, but it turned out great and my family enjoyed it !

Your feelings and thoughts

Upon completing this course, I was indeed very satisfied and felt more confident in baking.

Harshini A/P Ponniah (A167623) | 11 August 2021

2. Your progress so far

As of week 3, I have tried something new and out of my comfort zone, which is double chocolate chip muffins and cinnamon rolls. I am surely proud of myself for experimenting on pastries that I have never done before in my entire life. The muffins I made were rich, super chocolatey and loaded with chocolate chips in every bite. Since it would be my first time baking muffins and making cinnamon rolls, I didn’t want it to end up as a failure. I made sure to read and note down every tip that I could acquire from the internet (my saviour) and from bakers I personally know. As for my progress so far, I have completed the course and the quizzes on UDEMY and jotted down some notes from the course as well.

3. Your feelings and thoughts

To be honest, I actually thought that making chocolate chip muffins would be difficult and that I’m taking up a challenge that I wouldn’t be able to handle. Thankfully, that whole process was enjoyable and I managed to understand the art of baking muffins. For the cinnamon rolls, I found the process a tad more difficult till I needed the assistance of my sister at one point. Nonetheless, I still managed to successfully yield an appetizing dessert for my family members. What made me full of joy was watching my muffins and cinnamon rolls gradually disappearing one by one from the refrigerator as it was being consumed by my family, especially my sisters.

4. How did you learn and apply the skill of decision making in your EP journey?

I’m certainly sure that the skill of decision making has been instilled in all students involved in this elective posting. Our decision making skill would have been tested from the very beginning, when we were asked to choose a course for this posting. As for me, I attained this skill when I was deciding which pastry to bake, contemplating on the recipes to be selected and during the alteration of the recipe for the suitability of my family. I have made several decisions in the modification of the recipe such as adjusting the sweetness of the baked goods and the temperature of oven. There are some days where I have not made the best decision but I have learnt from my mistake and would not repeat it in the future.

5. How did you manage your time throughout this EP journey?

The before, during and after baking process is definitely time-consuming and anyone who have tried baking before would agree with me on this. From week 1 till date, I have followed a few techniques to manage my time well—that is, to outline what I plan to bake for each week from the beginning. The week before baking the particular pastry, I would shop to prepare for all the ingredients needed and browse the internet to compile the recipes required for the pastry. I would set a particular day and time to bake and my sister would help me record the video of the whole process.

8. Your plan for next week (Week 4)

My plan for the final week has to be the most exciting one yet and that is baking cakes! I’ve been waiting for this week as I’ve always wanted to bake scrumptious cakes for my family with the necessary preparation beforehand. I would start with my family and my favourite of all time – basque burnt cheesecake.

1. Your name, matric number, date

Loshiny Dewi a/p Jeeva
A168534

2. Your progress so far

As of week 3, I attempted to bake some chocolate chip muffin oats with chocolate buttercream. Firstly, I searched for the perfect chocolate chip muffin recipe and came across Sally’s baking addiction website. In the same website, I found the recipe for the chocolate buttercream as well. Just to add up a little, I added some oats to the recipe and the muffin came out marvelous. The ingredients were the basic ingredients and it was less complicated than baking cake except the icing part, but indeed it was a great experience! My brothers loved the muffin and ate quite a number which I think is a success. The buttercream was perfectly balanced with the sweetness of the muffin, and yes, the taste was great according to my parents. I’ve also completed all the sessions including the quiz from my baking course in udemy. I learned a lot of tips, ratios and baking skills. Indeed it was a fruitful experience.

3. Your feelings and thoughts

I’m happy looking at my progress and week by week it’s getting better. I was very hesitant to choose baking for my elective posting, but looking at how far I’ve came, I’m glad and proud of myself for trying this out. I was able to feel the joy of baking something and receiving the compliments from my family and looking at them enjoying my baked products.

4. How did you learn and apply the skill of decision making in your EP journey?

Decision making is something that I’ve applied from the start of the EP journey. When I browsed through the net to choose the perfect recipes for my baking, the kind of cookies or cakes I want to bake and the many types of ingredients that needed to be bought for the baking, I had to apply the skill of decision making. There were also times where I amended the recipe, for example the sweetness of the cake, muffin and cookies so that it’ll be suitable for my parents to consume. The skill of decision making also was applied while baking the goods in the oven, because sometimes the time taken to bake in the oven is longer compared to the what is written in the recipe, hence I had to allocate the additional time needed and make sure to not burn the products in the oven. Along the way, this skill was applied and I could see the importance of this skill as things might differ according to the situation and the recipes used but it was a worthy experience as I learned to make decision wisely to make sure the end result would be perfect.

5. How did you manage your time throughout this EP journey?

Time management was quite an easy task for me. A week before, I compiled the recipe I wanted to try for my EP and listed down all the ingredients needed for the baking. Therefore, when I went to shop for the ingredients, I estimated and bought all the ingredients needed for baking. This made the baking process every week easier and systematic. Preplanning everything smoothens the whole process. During the baking too, sometimes while waiting for the cake to bake for 45 minutes, I’ll prepare all my other items for the glaze in the meantime, hence this spares me some time.

8. Your plan for next week (Week 4)

I’ve planned to bake cheese bread and work on my e-book.
