When I see them throughout the school day I intentionally say hello to them and make eye contact.

We talk about things they enjoy outside of school and about their family.

I ask them about things that they have opened up to me about. I try to intentionally remember what they have shared.

I try to connect more intentionally during the class or a few mins just before lunch to ask them if they need anything and take that oppertunity to know them

I always do a short intake sheet where I ask the kids how to say their names, what they are interested in, etc. All of my first and second day activities are projects based on the kids like "This or That" drawings.

I have a talk with my current students in class about how we can help the new student acclimate to our class culture. Then, we implement those in class.

I think the ROAR postcards are helping us foster a positive relationships with students.

Some strategies I implement to build rapport in the beginning of the year is to give students the opportunity to introduce themselves and get to know them. Make sure they are notice not just by me but by all their peers.

For Mid-year students i also give them the same opportunity to introduce themselves and talk a little bit about them.
