Professional Perspective

My professional perspective in the school counseling field is that school counselors must see that students’ records are kept confidential and safe. School counselors must exercise ethical standards and behavior at all times when collaborating with administrators, teachers, parents, and the students. Ethical standards involve being knowledgeable on the guidelines to student confidentiality. If other school staff have access to my computer, others can discover this confidential information without intention. As a teacher, I have students with special needs in my classroom and although I follow the guidelines of confidentiality, there are times when this information might be visible to a person who should not have access to it. I am diligent in making all efforts in keeping students' information private. I believe it is critical to make all efforts to keep student information private.
