The Ottomans brought a new world to Europe, including Croatia, which was unknown to Europeans until then. Although the relations were mostly of a conquering nature, cultural and thus linguistic exchange was inevitable .
 In the Croatian language, there is a large number of Turkisms- adoptees from the Turkish language (or Arabic) that have spread during the conquest and the century-long rule of the Ottoman Empire in certain parts of the Republic of Croatia. Good trade relations and relations between the Ottoman Empire and Dubrovnik also influenced the wider use of oriental speech in the penache of Croatian tourism.
Many words from the Turkish language related to administration, army, clothing, parts of the house, family ties and the religious life and customs of Muslims have become part of the Croatian standard language, have become domesticated and have no substitute equivalent.
