I mentioned that I have multiple hobbies in another post, and it includes music. Growing up, I've watched my sister perform in recitals. She joined a drum and lyre corps in fifth grade, it transitioned to a marching band after two years. By that time, I was in fourth grade and my sister decided to transition from a lyre to a saxophone. She requested a saxophone but was given a clarinet, she insisted to play saxophone so the clarinet was left unused. Then the time for a summer workshop came, I was asked if I wanted to join their marching band as we had a spare clarinet nobody used. I am someone who likes to do random things, so I said yes. Starting from that day onwards I discovered my passion for music, I loved listening to marches such as 'The Stars and Stripes Forever' or soundtracks from movies like 'How To Train Your Dragon'. Soon I started to watch dance videos from k-pop idols and listening to various music genres like hip-hop and rap, classical music, and pop music. Until this day, I still play my clarinet whenever I feel like it. I am grateful to have learned this skill as not many people get the chance to learn how to play an instrument.

Undertale is a role-playing game by American indie developer Toby Fox. What makes this game interesting is that choices affect the game, with the dialogue, characters, and story changing based on outcomes. This game made me question my morals as I was made to reflect and face the consequences of my actions. Another theme from Undertale that stuck with me is friendship and compasssion, the game emphasizes the importance of friendship and understanding through the characters which you can befriend throughout the gameplay. Lastly, this game has unique mechanics as it addresses the concepts of death and redemption, by its unique mechanics that allow players to reset and replay the game. It encourages players to confront their past actions and seek redemption for their choices.

'Doki doki literature club' is a visual novel game, featuring 4 characters namely Sayori, Yuri, Monika, and Natsuki. The game features a non-traditional plot structure with multiple endings and unlockable cutscenes with each main character. It initially appears as a light-hearted dating simulator, but it is actually a psychological horror game that constantly breaks the fourth wall. Playing this game felt unpredictable, at first it felt a bit boring since I played this game with no prior knowledge as to what it is about. But an unexpected plot twist happened, I felt my heart pound faster and I was overthinking my choices throughout the game. Did I do something wrong for this particular cutscene to happen? Did I choose a bad dialogue? Did my choices represent insensitiveness? It bothered me to the core. This game became a core memory for me because it was an entirely new experience for me.

'Tell Me Why' is an episodic adventure game about a pair of twins namely Tyler and Alyson, a recurring theme of the story is the fallibility of memory, as the narrative explores the twins' childhood trauma and how they may each remember pivotal moments differently. This game also allows you to understand the life and perspective of an LGBT character, Tyler. 'Tell Me Why' has been noted for being the first video game to feature a playable transgender main character. Expert groups for its themes were consulted to ensure authentic and respectful portrayal of LGBT characters.

In conclusion, games made with careful consideration of plot, themes, philosophy, and dilemmas are interesting to me because in my eyes these games are real life lessons in the form of entertainment or video games in particular.

A quote I live by is 'Do not allow your circumstances to create who you are, create yourself through your reactions to your circumstances.' and 'Maybe the journey isn't about becoming anything. Maybe it's about unbecoming everything that isn't really you, so that you can be who you were meant to be in the first place.'

How did this subject help you know

yourself more?

Yes, Personal Development was very helpful for me because it made me reflect on aspects of myself that I often overlooked. It encouraged me to think about my values, emotions, and behaviors in a deeper way. I learned how important it is to understand myself first before trying to understand others. The subject also tackled topics that are sometimes uncomfortable or awkward to talk about, such as self-awareness and emotional struggles. Through these lessons, I became more open, confident, and accepting of who I am.

What were your key takeaways from the subject?

One of my biggest takeaways from Personal Development is to always be kind because everyone is fighting battles we may not see. The subject taught me that empathy and compassion are essential in building healthy relationships with others. It also reminded me that personal growth takes time and patience, and it’s okay to make mistakes along the way. Being kind to others and to myself allows me to grow emotionally and mentally. Overall, it strengthened my understanding of how small acts of kindness can have a big impact.

What two topics were your favorites and why?

My favorite topics were Mental Health and Well-Being. I believe mental health should be treated with the same importance as physical health because both affect how we live our daily lives. These topics stood out to me because they are often stigmatized, yet they were discussed openly in class, which made me feel comfortable and validated. I appreciated how our lessons emphasized self-care, emotional balance, and seeking help when needed. Talking about mental health in a normal classroom setting made me realize that taking care of our minds is just as crucial as taking care of our bodies.
