Portfolios are beneficial to students because a portfolio lets them see where they started compared to where they are now. It gives students a chance to see their progress rather than being told about how they're progressing.

I think a portfolio assessment can be beneficial for my students because at the end of the year they would be able to see how far they've come. Students are always very hard on themselves and don't see their progress and how much they've improved. Collecting assessments in a portfolio can show students the progress they've made from the beginning of the year to the point that they are at now. Doing this can help build their confidence and realize that they have grown more than they have thought.

How might you use portfolios as an assessment window for your students.
From each lesson I can take an initial activity we did, like a pre-assessment before starting to teach the lesson, and then an ending activity or summative assessment the children did once the lesson topic is wrapping up. This can show their growth of knowledge from the beginning to end of the time frame. It shows what they learned.

2.) What materials would you want to include?
I would want to use binders for each child's portfolio where I can date each of the items in it. This can show the child's growth all the way from the beginning of the year, throughout the year, and end of the year. This will be a great resource to give to parents at the end of the year and something they can be a keepsake for the family. It can include assessments, writing samples, pictures, etc.
