There are many similarities differences in how Americans and Panamanians celebrate New Year Eve.
Similarities:
Americans celebrate at home by preparing and eating delicious food (finger foods, dip), drinking alcohol, launching fireworks, and sharing hugs and kisses.
Panamanians prepare some dishes sus as rice with chicken, tamales, pork, drink some beers; they share hugs, kisses, and best wishes for the New Year.
Differences:
For example, Americans celebrate at big parties such as Times Square with concerts by famous singers while they wait for the ball drop. But also at home playing cards, board games, and state the New Year Resolution.

2. In Panama we create some new year doll, in Usa they use deoratio specially for this celebration.
3. I think we use the resolution but not in the same way as USA, because they write each resolution in paper to check during the year.

We have some new year traditions and some of them are very funny:
We make some “muñecos” and eat some grapes.
Another tradition is to save money in our pockets for getting more in the new year
Walk with a packed suitcase around the house

This will ensure a new year full of travel.

It gives you good luck throughout the new year.

It will attract love in the new year

Put rice in a pot

It will attract wealth for the New Year.
Pour water on a pound rice

Sometimes people also pour water on a pound of rice. I am not sure what this signifies. Perhaps another cleansing ritual.

This will get rid of bad energy.

New year is to celebrate a new beginning so people do almost the same things because they share together with family or friends asking for blessings, health or money. The differences are just cultural as the way the eat food. The used to eat appetizer while we need a great portion of food like rice, chicken, fish, tamales, pork and so on. Also, we used to share with or family or couples but we don't share a midnight kiss. We prefer to eat 12 grapes and go around home with a bag just to ask for trips and vacations.
