Youths who were born with/ have physical and mental disabilities (e.g. ADHD, visual impairment), may feel isolated from the rest of the world and also feel as if they are inferior to people without such disabilities.

Youths may have mental health issues that arise from their childhood traumatic experiences. (E.g. loss of loved ones.)

According to Better Health Channel, Teenagers who experienced childhood trauma commonly show signs of depression, feelings of hopelessness, strong emotions such as sadness, anger, anxiety and guilt, which are all symptoms negatively affecting their mental health.

Youths who have suffered the effects of bullying in school could develop signs of mental illness. (e.g. depression, social anxiety)

According to an article from Psychology Today, the psychological manifestations of being bullied involve depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, as well as aggression.

Cyberbullying through online social media may also result in youths being greatly affected by their mental health, as it causes them to feel insecure about themselves which would ultimately lead to mental illnesses (e.g. anxiety, depression)

According to Channel News Asia, a 15 year old teen who was a victim of cyberbullying claims that she had struggled to make friends because she became more self-conscious and constantly wonders of what people think of her.

Interracial conflicts such as racism may cause youths to be shunned by other people which could lead to them feeling depressed and isolated as they are not able to make friends and constantly wonder if it is because they are lacking in some way. In cases of prolonged bullying due to racism, the victims might even show signs of self-hate because of the harsh environment around them.

Parents who abuse their children often do it for reasons such as alcohol and drug abuse, mental disabilities etc. However, this abuse towards the teens could lead to them to having mental illnesses such as anxiety or numbness.

According to Psychology Today, the long-term impacts of child abuse could include impaired functioning, unhealthy relationships, emotional numbness, and an increased risk of anxiety and depression.
