For example, in the article, Funds of Knowledge for Teaching..., teachers learned that their students and their families had a lot of insight about candy. With that information, they created a lesson that extended for a week. Students got the opportunity to practice their analytical and critical thinking skills by trying to determine what is candy? They learned about how to make it and the difference between Mexican candy and American.
