I learned that funds of knowledge has to do with families' work experiences, social practices, and their social history. Teachers should incorporate students' experiences into instructions. We can apply funds of knowledge by using differentiated instructions in our classrooms. Also, teachers can get parents involved to support students in creating a bilingual picture book about traditional story and have parents share about their countries.

Funds of knowledge is more than just getting to know the interests of our students to. It is learning about them as a whole person, what they know and do outside of school. This includes getting to know their family, what the parents/guardians do for a living, their cultural background and continuous practices. Upon gaining further insight about their students knowledge and life experiences, utilizing that information and using it in the classroom to further their academic success. For example, in the article, Funds of Knowledge for Teaching..., teachers learned that their students and their families had a lot of insight about candy. With that information, they created a lesson that extended for a week. Students got the opportunity to practice their analytical and critical thinking skills by trying to determine what is candy? They learned about how to make it and the difference between Mexican candy and American. They got an opportunity to practice their writing skills when they had to make posters to sell the candy and then write about what they had learned and experienced that week.
