In my experience, an engaged student was a student that asked questions and positively contributed to the classroom discussion — It was a student that engaged in active listening and followed directions during and in between lessons. These students typically spoke to students when prompted to and not out of turn. However in some cases, sometimes students get so excited about the listen they speak out of turn. Due to my experience with past teachers I know the differences between an actively engaged student, a student who wants to be engaged but needs direction and a student who simply is not engaged — each of these students need to be acknowledged and tended to within the classroom to promote success.
