W6Q3: Following Orders by Kimberly Hall

What does Article 8 say about the responsibility of individuals who committed a crime while following orders of their government or a superior? Do you think this is a fair respone to those who defended themselves from accusations of wrongdoing during the war by claiming that they were following orders? (11 points)

I think that this reading makes a lot of sense. The reading says that the concentration camp killings by gas chamber and starvation were more caused by the dogma that 🤬 Germany had put into pace for many years. The soldiers who did all of these horrible things may have done them because of the way they were told to think. I think it is definitely a good idea that shouldn't be thrown into the wind, but I also don't necessarily think it exonerates those who defended themselves from the accusations for what they did. At the end of the day, they did something horrible and for the soldiers who were partaking in the shootings and direct violence towards the innocent people should not be pardoned on the defense that they were just following orders.

Sergio

At the beginning of the reading it talks about Dogmas and the 🤬 dogma of that time. It relates the creations of the gas chambers and crematories to the 🤬 dogma of the time. So considering they were told there was only one right from the leaders and didn't know/think about the wrongs associated with the creations they made they should be able to use the defense of "following orders of their government or a superior" but that can not be said for the scientists who did direct testing on their prisoners or the Nazis who went around and were responsible for the direct killing of the innocent people they should not be able to use the "following orders from a superior" as a defense and should be prosecuted for what they did.

Rob Smart
