  • Behaviors were not significantly different.
  • Noticeable differences were found between the hand, arm movements and pauses.
  • Gave some support to the cognitive load process. Behaviors leading to cognitive load would be blinking and pausing.

* Video tapes of authentic liars from police records were obtained. 

*Clips were broken down so there was atleast one lie and one truth per person.

* Two observers independently analyzed the final tape and coded 8 different behaviours in the response categories.

* Checks were done to see if there was good agreement or inter-rater reliability.

*The suspects analysed, did not know that their recordings were to be used for a study. Hence, they were likely to exhibit real behaviours, making the findings more valid.

Weakness -

* This study will be difficult to replicate. This is because if they police knew that tapes may be used for analysis, they might have changed the way that they interviewed the suspects which in turn would have reduced the validity of these findings.
