His father had a heart attack while Patina was with him. Soon later, her mother would become disabled with no legs because of diabetes. Now her mother has a battle and Patina is afraid if she will lose her mother. Patina does know another adult but she cannot connect well because they are two different cultures. So Emily, (The Adult) is called Momly by her because she tries to take care of them but she cannot braid hair since she is white. Patina was then sent to a charter school with mainly white people and people with wealthy backgrounds. She has recently felt sad because she had left her friend cotton. Since track was a thing at her school, she met ghost (the previous book) and the story went from there. The ending is not very straight to the point and some people may not like that.
