Hello everyone!
My name is Bethany Arispe and I've taught ELAR in the secondary classroom for 7 years. I teach in Northside ISD in San Antonio. Prior to this, I taught in a small school district outside of my hometown Corpus Christi. I have two little ones who keep me on my toes, Jon and Aleena. I've just recently accepted a position as an ELAR Instructional Coach/Coordinator and I could not be more excited to start my new journey! I look forward to meeting and working with you all throughout this summer course.

Discussion 1: Administrative Leadership

1. Effective Administrative Leadership is about flexibility, resilience, and focus. It can be a tough job to do in this field because the needs of a school community is constantly changing and fluctuating. An administrator, whether seasoned or new to the position, must draw from an educator's "own learning about how they can develop as leaders" and create their own leadership practices (Cunningham-Morris & Pajardo). Essentially, the principal should follow these attributes: Visionary, Instructional Leader, Engager, Learner and Collaborator. The leader brings this question to the table for the school community: "How can we work together to achieve a common goal?". The leadership roles require professional development and support just as the teacher to expect the unexpected and bring positivity along with possible solutions to move forward. This requires self-reflection that can be followed by a cycle:

-Become aware of your leadership context. How am I aware of the status of learning and teaching in my school, our current reality and needs, and my leadership role?

-Be intentional in your actions. How intentionally do I align decisions, actions, policies, and resources to meet our needs?

-Accurately assess your actions. How do I know whether my leadership actions are positively impacting the staff and school community?

-Be capable in adjusting your actions. How responsive am I to the results of my assessment and the changing needs of the school community?

2.

I chose this picture after reading an abstract found on ASCD, titled: "What Great Principals Really Do" by Jason A. Grissom, Anna J. Egalite, and Constance A. Lindsay. They describe a principal as ever-changing to adapt to the needs of the school community, but consistently being engaging, collaborative, productive, and flexible. This picture and article tied perfectly with the first article written by Kate Stoltzfus about a principal's abilities and willingness to learn, grow, and change.

References:

Grissom, J.
