In this chapter, Ratliff describes linking as repetitive motion, and as people we like this because it's what we have repetitive habits all day long. Our lives are revolved around repetition and how it is instilled in us to get work in order to feel satisfied and to continue life without chaos. But Ratliff goes on to explain how music is repetitive but not in the way that it can put in a box, or has to be as simple as repetition can be. I agree with Ratliff's statement because I also believe music can have the element of repetition but can be much more complex. He uses the example of Gabriel Fauré and his song "Andante Moderato from Piano Quintet no. 2, op.115,1919-21,Quatuor Ysaÿe, Pascal Rogé". This is a good choice because it shows how it's a free form of music that expresses repetition but not in a set manner.
