SALESIANO’S CHURCH.

The church of the Salesiano College in Linares was built in 1900 in a neo gothic style, this church has been a place of shelter to gathering and prayer for the Salesian and Linares community for over a century.
Now and days the church has been considered a National Historic Monument since 2003 by Chile's National Monuments Council, recognising its cultural importance.

On 27 October 1874, the construction of the railway tracks passing through Linares was completed and the first passenger train arrived.

The service between Talca and Linares began in 1877 and thanks to all the mobilisation brought about by the construction of the tracks, all the people who owned farms were able to market their products.

HOUSE OF CULTURE

The House of Culture brings together the residents of Linares as a point of cultural expression, where concerts, artistic shows, dances, competitions, plays and more are presented. This space is also used by the residents of Linares as a meeting place for neighbourhood groups such as the Unión Comunal and the Grupo del Adulto Mayor.

BASKETBALL COURT

This basketball court is built within the Valentín Letelier alameda and is a recreational place where everyone can go to get out of the routine and enjoy an afternoon of sport with friends or family. As the place does not have a structure to protect it from the rain or the sun, it is advisable to avoid the activity in this place during rainy days because of the slippery ground and also in hours of high UV radiation during sunny days.

LINARES’ MAIN SQUARE

The setting of this place has many visual elements that make it a special place, in addition to the surrounding buildings which are also exceptional. It has writings at various points that teach us about the history of the square and some of the buildings that can be found there.

This is an imposing style house composed of openings of different sizes including materials such as steel, stone and wood. These houses are firmer and safer than the old ones, they protect us from the weather efficiently.

OLD HOUSE

This house is of a colonial style built in 1886 with adobe, wood and tiles, which protected the citizens of that time, with the materials they had at their disposal. Today the house is the Linares’ museum, being acquired and inaugurated in 1966.

MUNICIPAL MARKET

The municipal market is a shopping center where you can buy local gods from the Maule region, specifically from Linares.
The gods that we can see the most in the market are fresh fruits, such as cherries, blueberries and plums, since the weather and soil where Linares are located is perfect for the production of these fruits.

LINARES’ CATHEDRAL

The cathedral of Linares is another place of gathering and prayer for believers. This church located in front of the Linares’ main square has a beautiful architectural facade, but its interior is more beautiful and imposing.

We can finish this fieldwork by commenting on the beautiful green areas that linares has and how it is influences to Linares people everyday life, since green areas help us to be distracted and have a more relaxed daily life.

On the other hand, Linares is very close to the Andes mountain range. The geography and climate of the area, makes it have a different culture, unlike other Chilean cities. A great example of this is the resistance to the cold that the citizens of Linares have, compared to those who come from outside and we have to dress in warm clothes. The Linares’ people resist very well the sudden changes in temperature of the city (hot and cold) but for the rest, enduring these changes in temperature means in an assured cold.

Linares is a beautiful city, full of history and culture, a perfect city to go for a walk in its green areas and to discover new places.

ALAMEDA’S PLAYGROUND

As in any city, there must be places for children to have fun, as well as this playground where children play and that in our case helped us remember our childhood. The playground is beautiful and it is outdoors, however the biggest problem it has is that when we are on rainy days the park cannot be occupied since everything becomes slippery, the children's games get wet and the floor is filled with mud.
