The history of education is important to know and understand to help better my teaching. Coming into this course, I had no understanding of the history of education. I also did not know there were different purposes of education. By researching the primary purposes of education, I was able to advocate for something that I believe in and want to teach. Knowing what I believe is the primary purpose of education, I gained a better understanding of myself as a teacher. I knew nothing about the financial or the political side of education until this class. This is important information that is a necessary topic to understand as a teacher or even a student. I learned so many essential topics in this class that is so important to know and understand as a teacher or student.

I think as an education major this class is very valuable in helping me understand why the education system is like it is today. My favorite thing that I did in this course was the teacher advocate paper and I also enjoyed working with my learning team. When doing my teacher advocate paper, it was so neat to find a topic that was important and that interested me, and develop a paper proving how the reform I advocated for would be beneficial. Working with my learning team was very helpful because I got to reach out to them if I had a question about something and get a new perspective on whatever we were learning about in that module. 3. Finally, I learned about how much effrot teachers put in. Just from this course alone, I can see all these specific protocols and rules teachers have to follow to not get in trouble or say something wrong since teachers have a big influence on their students. 2. Learning about the history of American education was also interesting to me. There were so many aspects of education that I did not know about before. I am a history education major so it was interesting learning history in a class that I had not expected to.
3. It was also interesting learning about the American and state court cases that have influenced education. Many of them I was familiar with through my previous government classes, others were new. One of the most important things I learned was how funding affects schools and how much local, state and federal funds the school. This was important to me because as a future educator, it is important for me to know  how this will affect how much I will have to contribute to help my students be successful. 
2. I learned a lot about the backbone of the education system and the history behind it. Also, I learned a lot about a lot of influential people that helped the education system be the way it is now. One person who I will always remember is John Dewey. 
3. One quote that I liked from the textbook was, "another aspect of our nations commitment to equal educational opportunity is the compensatory education movement, which as sought to over come (that is compensate for) disadvantaged background and thereby improve the performance of low-achieving students, particularly those from low-income families." It is important for those to realize that those who come from low-income communities to get extra help as they more than likely don't get the resources that others may have.

2. I am fascinated by history and a highlight for my learning in this course was when we were learning all the  motives and meanings for education at different points in time. Contemplating the reason for education helped me wrap my  head around how it needs to be taught.
3. The most important thing I learned in this course is the different philosophies their are when approaching schooling. I really enjoyed taking the philosophies inventory because it made the information I was learning personable to me, whilst educating me on reforms using those philosophies. I did not realize there were “pioneers” of education. I never really stopped to think about how education changed or who helped develop it. This course really taught me the history of education. 
2. I also learned way more about current education laws, like the Every Student Succeeds act. I learned more about the curriculum and what teachers can control what they teach and when they can’t. 
3. I also learned about the philosophies of education. I didn’t even realize they existed, much less how much I agree with them. I never knew that I agreed mostly with the Progressive philosophy, and now I have a guide for my teaching.

2. Another important thing that I learned this semester was the laws and policies around the education system. Several different laws are surrounded by freedom of speech in the classroom along with religion that I had not even realized until this year.  
3. The last, but possibly the most interesting thing that I learned this year was the pioneers of the American Education system.  I found that learning about the people who shape our common core and how the day to day school operates to be very eye opening.
