He was born in 1481 in the town of Prades, in the Crown of Aragon, today province of Tarragona. Possibly studied music in Barcelona with Joan Castelló. In December 1522 he began to work at the Cathedral of Lleida, first as a singer and, from September 1523 until October 1525, as a chapel teacher. It is believed that he later moved to Guadalajara, in the service of the III Duke of the Infantado, Diego Hurtado de Mendoza, where he worked for six years
