There was a man by the name Timothy McVeigh who filled a van full of explosives and parked outside of the building. It detonated and killed 168 people, injuring over 650 people and destroying 300 buildings in the surrounding area, making it the deadliest bombing in U.S. history. There are no historical people in this particular photo, but I did choose it due to the fact that most photos we see of this deadly event are a frontal view, but this is from the top. This took me by surprise to see the depth of the damage into the core of the building. It shows just how destructive the bomb actually was. I believe this event is important because it was the deadliest bombing in American history, and because it was the first major terrorist attack on domestic soil. When I think of a terrorist attack, I tend to think of 9/11, as I am sure most people do, but we all forget how significant this incident was because it took place in "the heartland", where everyone feels safe.
