American Civil Rights Movement was a very racist period. The Help shows an unjust society. It educates the audience about racial discrimination about social class. Taylor speaks through Skeeter as she is unhappy with this behaviour from her community and takes a stand against this. This was risky, though TAYLOR expresses his opinions creatively throughout the film.

Taylor's attitudes and values are those of which entitles us to realise there is no difference between the JL and the African American maids in Jackson (1960s). He speaks through Aibileen and Skeeter. Aibileen is a maid and knows how this effects her. Skeeter is stuck in the middle as she wants to see change but doesn't want to get into trouble.

Tate Taylor uses his immaculate characters and dialogue to convey his important message of inequality in “The Help”. He mainly conveys his message through Aibileen and Skeeter and their story and struggle of making their society aware of the racism and inequality in Jackson, Mississippi. However, he still uses other characters such as the African-American maid society and certain white people such as Hilly, Celia and her husband to convey messages. (All characters are significant in the conveying of this message).

By publishing the book, Skeeter put Aibileen and the majority of the help in jeopardy, resulting in Aibileen losing her job and Skeeter getting a promotion opportunity. Another negative outcome which arose from Skeeter releasing the book, it meant that the african americans were going against the Jim Crow Laws, which could result in them being sent to jail. It also depicts that the african americas needed to rely on white people to be able to share their stories. The film depicts that the white people were the 'monsters' as such, however, a bad side was never shown from African American people.

the absence of men in this film diminishes the influence and power of white male dominance at that time. With the death of Medgar Evans it is clear that there is clear separation between the white men who murdered him and the husbands of the women in the Junior League. Not every man living in Mississippi at the time was part of the Ku klux klan or a racist. But these different types of Men shown in the movie shown a very different side to what was shown in the nightly news footage that we have all seen where countless white men scream and terrorise anyone working towards social justice and human rights. Hilly in the film, known as the hateful antagonist mentions Ross Barnett, the governor of Mississippi , as a someone worth listening to just because he was "the Governor". But he was one of the most hated politicians who strongly supported segregation and ordered the people who spoke up about civiil rights to be sent to prison.

Many comments and opinions on The Help as a film have raised over the years. Many comments state that "This is the story people need to know" however the conclusion argues that this story is not one that needs to be known. The message it gives is that it really wasn't all that bad in those days. Sure there were a few horribly racist people but generally white people cared for black people. This wasn't the case. The conclusions argues that the film The Help focuses on the few slightly good things that may have happened in those times but does not equally show the amount of horrific, racist things that occurred and that the African-American women (and men whom were absent) had to endure.

Explaining how Kathryn Stockett, author of the book, grew up in the society where she was in the position that was portrayed by one of the members of the junior league. She wanted to write the story to show her view which is relevant to the events which occurred. By growing up in the 1960’s Stockett had her own maid so she could provide her experiences of what actually occurred.

In years after the 1960’s more movies started to arise with black people being used as main characters of a film. This was shown through past successes of similar movies released prior to the help. Hollywood has stated that audiences of this time have a known love for movies consisting of the saving of black or oppressed women.

Previous Disney films display the diversity shown in the help. She also states that all the racism is shown through Hilly and that the rest of the women such as Elizabeth were just following her lead, if Hilly were to be removed from the film the others wouldn’t be as racist. She also believes that if the book were to be written by a black author or if Aibileen had been the one to publish the book it wouldn’t have been as successful. The book or film would have been labelled as ‘African American Fiction’ or a ‘Black movie’. The author being a white person sells more as it is interesting to see a privilege white person being involved in black things and people.
