         <description><![CDATA[<div>Originally established in 2001, the ETHOS program developed primarily as an undergraduate, international immersion program operating only during the summer terms. The ETHOS Program was a student designed and student led undergraduate program with fiscal oversight and management from the Office of the Dean. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>ETHOS was established as a center in 2016, to promote and expand experiential learning programs focused on technical service with community partners at home and abroad, with perceived benefits in terms of recruitment, student learning and  development, and graduate marketability. The center staff included a part-time faculty director, an office manager, and funding for 2 graduate assistants.  With the center status, The ETHOS immersion program grew to include immersion opportunities in Dayton (modeled off of the Fitz Center for Leadership in Community Semester of Service program) and in other US states, and offered immersion opportunities for students during all three terms (summer, fall, and spring semesters).<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>In 2018, the School of Engineering hired a Director of Community Relations, affiliated with the ETHOS Center, who, among other broader SOE responsibilities, worked to advance and expand local and domestic community partnerships and immersion opportunities for students, as well as expanding curricular connections to ETHOS Center partners (EGR 103 and Innovation Center).  The ETHOS Center also was able to fund a Sociology Faculty member for consulting on and co-facilitating assessment projects (to assess student motivation and outcomes of the immersion programs) with the ETHOS Center.</div><div><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<ul><li>In 2020, the ETHOS Center added a program coordinator to the staff of the center, with increased responsibilities from the past staff support position.  With this development, more work on systems, processes, and partnerships has been accomplished.  An engineering elective academic course was developed for ETHOS Dayton and Domestic programs.  Both this course and the traditional EGR 330 course also received approval to be Diversity and Social Justice CAP courses as well as Practical Ethical Action Crossing Boundaries CAP courses.  Also in 2020 the Center ran its first remote/virtual immersion program with 12 Dayton/Domestic partners.  In 2021, the Center will be running its first COIL course and will offer a virtual/remote immersion program with international partners.</li><li><br></li></ul><div><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>ETHOS center connected with over 50 stakeholders in 2019 to ideate, envision, and connect for updating the Center’s original 2016 strategic plan.  Stakeholders in this group included faculty and staff from other parts of the university, alumni, community partners, engineering students, and graduate students.  The task set before the group that met in October 2019 was simple: to envision an ETHOS Center at its best - fulfilling its purpose for faculty, staff, and students; for the School and the University; for the field of engineering; and for the common good.  Led by an engineering faculty facilitator, participants dreamed together on ways to deepen and advance current work while also considering new horizons for adaptation and change, all with an eye on our University’s mission and identity as Catholic and Marianist.  </div><div><br><br></div>]]></description>
